Anyone fancy a trip to Germany?

Rotherham United will take on  FC Magdeburg in the second game of the upcoming pre-season tour of Germany.

The match will take place on Sunday 14th July, kick off 2pm (German time).

The Millers will fly out to Germany on Monday 8th July and return on Monday 15th July.

The fixture against  FC Magdeburg, who were relegated from Bundesliga 2 last season, is the first of two planned fixtures to be rubber stamped.

The match will take place at Elm-Stadion, Elmstraße, 38364 Schöningen and fans will be able to attend.

What good did it do us last season? Can run round Germany as much as you want but we still got relegated. Just a fitness coach showing his paces. Get the transfer windows right that's what was needed but that was for the championship. Another season at least before we need that level of recruitment again.

I might fly over to Germany to watch the Millers play. It's much nearer than Madrid or Baku, on the shores of the Caspian Sea, for the Europa League and Champions League Finals.

I think all clubs do pre-season training and have warm up games. I'm really not sure how that can be criticised and put down to our manager being a fitness coach showing his paces. I do think he could be criticised if we were unfit and underprepared when the real action starts. It shouldn't impede recruitment at all, and in fact last season we signed a couple of players during the few days away who were flown straight out to join the group.

I can think of worse places to be in July than Northern Germany. Perhaps I might see a few of my fellow banterers there?

Ì agree with gwru running up a few hills in Germany will not make or break our season the quality of the signings will all gone quiet on that front again keeping very quiet on who we might get can not see anything happening until next week.

I'm sure we can all agree that good recruitment is vitally important to our prospects. I'm fairly sure that we can all agree that having our players match fit by the time the season starts is also vital. I don't really see what the two have got to do with each other. Do we have to choose one or the other? Do teams who don't have a former fitness coach as manager not bother with running, fitness and pre-season matches?

It will be down to the facilities and seclusion surely within our budget, that for the same over here we can't afford and have media that wanna know which hair colour you're using.

I don't blame em going to Germany, I'm sure they'll have good reason, Warney isn't stupid, a qualified coach and teacher, he's probably the most intelligent manager we've ever had!

Just let em get on with it, as long as when we travel far and wide the lads put their all in (as we have done and you can't argue with that?), that's all we can ask for right?

We ran out of gas end of last season cause football doesn't change in one respect. Good sides let the ball do the work. We were chasing the ball most of last season. Just came up short of the level required. Shame because we had the nucleus of a stopping up side. That seasons history. Look forward see what next season brings.

I don't think going to Germany made any difference, cause we didn't get the recruitment right to stop up. Pity cause a couple of players up to championship level more then likely would have made the difference.

I understand, gwru. You always look forwards not backwards. And in response to a post about summer training for next season you spoke about last season. Got it. I can't wait for the Bristol Rovers and Gillingham games. I'm sure there'll be lots of looking forwards then! I agree with you about chasing the ball though.  Being a fit team is a good thing.  Chasing the ball all the time isn't.

smiler I don't get your last post but you've got to look forwards cause you can't change anything. I'd sooner be playing Sheff W next season & the rest than most of the sides in league 1 but will be watching the side I've watched since 1965 Roth U. August can't arrive quick enough!
