Old grounds you wish were still here

Not allowed to say Millmoor!

I remember Bolton's old ground, what a brilliant old school stadium that was (like Stoke City's old ground and Burnley / Preston /West Brom before they were modernised)...all that soul gone...kids today have no idea what an atmosphere is (or turning up to an away game and feeling well and truly like you're going to get spanked just from the surroundings).

Hull City or Huddersfield? - any more I'm forgetting?

Oakwell in the days of yore. In the time before the £3.75 million pounds east stand was built. You could walk from one end to the other end. From the Ponty End to the Spion Kop. My pals used to change ends at half time depending on which goal the Tykes were attacking.

In them days tha cud 'ave a wooden football rattle while Tykes were lakin'. Nob'dy stopped thi. 'Ave still got mi rattle from when a started suppewrtin' T'Millers.

Nearly forgot. Barnsley Bitter made at the Oakwell Brewery. Not a bad pint. The brewery closed down after over 120 years of turning out millions of gallons of bitter.

Used to love the Baseball Ground at Derby. It was a big, traditional ground in not the nicest part of town and it reeked of football history. As I remember it the pitch rarely had a blade of grass on it and from December onwards it was like playing on a beach.

Molineux, particularly the Molineux Street stand and the South Bank stand, I watched the Wolves regularly back in the 70's when I used to live there.

Upton Park West Ham. We played there twice in the early 2000's, stands so close to the pitch & genuine spine tingling atmosphere, feel so sorry for the Hammers fans having to go to the soulless looking Olympic Stadium.

Bramall lane cricket ground. Sh*t football ground, outdated but great memories from middle/late 60's early 70's. Great Yorkshire side Boycott Trueman ect...

Feethams, Darlington. The move from there to the George Reynolds Stadium destroyed the club. I often recall a Millers fan complaining there were "Too many Tarts" which meant he couldn't relieve himself against the wall. Happy days.

...and how about The Old Showground, S****horpe which made Millmoor seem modern. I recall seeing the Millers lose 4-3 after our goalkeeper was sent off (can't remember whether it was Gordon Morritt or Roy Ironside) - no subs and we lost in the last minute.

Party pooper here but I don't miss any old grounds - modern stadiums with good facilities are great - I do miss standing on the kop though and thats what I remember most fondly of the place we can't mention 😁

White Hart Lane, 'The Lane', fully demolished after the end of the 2016–17 season. Spurs now have the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Naming the new stadium obviously didn't cause too much of a headache for the club. They have other fish to fry in the final of the Champions League against Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid, Spain on 1 June 2019.

Wanda? A fish called...…...You just can't make it up.

Seems a bit odd that two sets of British fans have to travel to Madrid to watch an all English final. Quite an extravagance in my 'old fashioned' book, re needless expense (cheapest tickets £60) and unnecessary air miles plus accommodation costs. There must be plenty of folk out there with plenty of cash to watch 90mins of football.

Many supporters will just watch it on the telly. Cuts out all the hassle of travelling there not to mention the carbon footprints.

Here we go Arsenal v Chelsea in the Europa League Final, 29th May 2019 at the
Baku Olympic Stadium, Baku, Azerbaijan.
Where else could they hold the final? Each club has been allocated 6,000 tickets for the game.

A bit off topic now, but I was told last night by a guy who was at Anfield the other night that Easy jet has hiked up the prices of their flights to Spain for the final by up to 600 %.

Although the clubs will benefit, it seems the final is really for the TV companies and the freeloaders. The fans will pay.
