"There were other clubs in for him and unfortunately it didn’t end with us getting him," manager Paul Warne said. "We were as competitive as we could be."
So would I as it happens but seeing clubs such as Ipswich sign players right left & centre it frustrates the hell out of me. I don't want us to go back to the scattergun SE transfer policy but surely the club's hierarchy realise as we all do that we need players in NOW regardless of Warnies "good human being" policy, in short if a quality mercenary can improve us short term then we must go for it.
We ARE used to it.. but it doesn't make it feel any better...
2 seasons ago I don't think bringing in really good signings in January would have saved us as we were dire..
But the frustrating things for us fans (and no doubt PW too) , is that this season we are not far off having a team that can survive in this league.. we only need two or three players, assuming they perform as well as the other signings PW has brought in... and we coud stay up.
Again it's the lack of just that bit more ambition, bit more risk... it frustrates the hell out of me...
I just hope Vassell (fit again apparently) starts to show us the form I think he capable of.. now is his chance with Proctor probably never going to play again..
..and on that topic, as per previous seasons rants - why oh why did we not offer Proctor a pay per play deal as he was clearly not fit... yet again we waste money there (we have done this time and time and time again with crocked players), money that could have been spent now, in this transfer window)
Ipswich is a massive game.. and I think it's clear which team will be more motivated by the dealings done in the month.... they will have renewed hope... we just have injuries, players gone home, and nothing new...
Don't know about Vassell, he's not quick & how we play can't play 2 up front.
Tomorrow as long as we don't play Forde & Taylor give us a chance. Vaulks & Wiles while they are in the side always got a chance
Ok so here is a choice for you....
We approach a club for a player who’s not playing in their current team, has played 42 games and scored twice.
We discuss taking him on loan and paying part of his wages in line with our own payment structure ( on another thread).
We then get gazumped when another club comes in and offers to pay his whole wage.
Would you be happy to pay a player almost 3 x more than anyone in our squad on average for someone who scores once every 21 games???
*** this is all hypothetical of cause
We are a big-ish fish in league 1, not in the championship.
I agree with brad and Davidedin, it doesn't look good for us when we target a player from Huddersfield who then picks a team 10 pts behind us in the league and a lot further away from where he is currently residing. Its obvious they can offer near or the same wages he was on at Huddersfield and we we were not able to get anywhere near. What worries me is the fact that Manning has gone back, Towell is out for another game, Vassell not yet fit enough and Newell doubtful. Purrington sent back out on loan to Charlton. Proctor out for the season. All this leaves us with a threadbare squad. I accept Yates and ihiekwe have returned to us.
I am not saying the players Ipswich have signed are going to make any difference but at least they are freshening things up to give them hope . Gwru, you say as long as Taylor and Forde are out of the team we have a chance. In our situation please do not tell me you would play Hinds who hasn't had a game for us in the league and by all accounts didn't pull up any trees at a non league club. We have to go with what we have and either play Taylor and Forde as the wide men as shown in 'The Tiser' or go with Raggett at the back and play Ajayi in the midfield. You still would have to have Forde or Taylor in one of the wide positions. Another option is to give Jerry Yates a chance at the side of Smith, which i think is an absolute no .no. . The problem for P.W is we have very few options available and also some of those available are showing signs of a very tough season already. I would take a draw now for tomorrows game.
reasons.......we are all told by fans on here and on facebook to trust PW he knows what he is doing. If that player was one of the 7 and we trust PW then yes we have to sign him we have to put up the cash. It is low risk financially as he is a loan player so it is for a few months and we have to assume he will score more than his record shows
The current plan by the board is to through away between £10 and £12m in revenue next season, how the F is that good business
Looks like we have got Matt Crooks signed from Northampton. He is a defensive midfielder i believe. Had a short spell with Glasgow Rangers. Whether he is able to go straight into the side i don't know. Got to be good news because we are so short of personnel.
Ye of little faith hope the news is correct if so hope it's one of Warneys golden nuggets he has dug up.
Give him a chance maybe with our training facilities he may prove to be a good player for us.
Gwru, you have selected Yates on the left of a midfield five. He has played there a few times for Carlisle but in division two. He has also played in a more central left midfied, a central right midfield and as a central striker. The difference in class between div 2 and championship would mean, in my opinion, a massive gamble playing jerry wide left tomorrow.
I also believe Warne,Barker et al, must be better judges than us. We are short of left sided players and have been all season. With that in mind do you think they would have let Jerry go to Carlisle if they thought he could do a job for us wide left.
Its on RUFC twitter and SKY Matt Crooks has signed good news at last I know some of you on this site expect big signings and you seem to enjoy a good moan forget about MC game just get behind the team. If we do go down I will buy another season ticket we have had a good ten years under Tony Stewart solvent club my glass is half full.
Hope Crooks can play will force Warney's hand. Williams on the right. Left apart from Newell not seen nothing. Yates is young, been playing. Sure I saw him take a goal well with his left foot.
Northampton Manager states (re Crooks) : "We rejected a number of offers for him this window and the club worked hard to keep him last summer, but once an offer was made that met our valuation and we felt was a good deal for the club, we agreed to his wishes and agreed a deal."
so , to be fair, on this occassion we've actually beat a few other bids.... UTM
