Desperate is right. Panic, shortsighted, ridiculous and embarrassing also seem appropriate descriptions. It is now true in football that every manager is potentially three straight defeats from the bullet. How can any of them hope to re-shape a squad and effect long term changes when there is so much pressure to win every next game? Hypothetically speaking, how many straight defeats would it take before the love-in with Warne ended and people started calling for him to go? If we lost our next three games and fell into the bottom three for Christmas I reckon there would be people asking for a change ahead of the transfer window. It has become a bit of a farce.

You're right Smiler. Managers are on life support most of the time waiting for Chairmen to switch off the power. Ironic that the players they manage are super-protected from failure by watertight contracts! With respect to PW, I do recall a chorus of approval for him following last season's promotion and general agreement that TS should stick with him this season regardless of our league position. However, like you, I suspect many of our shorter sighted followers would be calling for his head if we slipped into the bottom three!
