We are desperate for a quality striker and have shown past interest in Doidge. Bolton have signed him on loan with a permanent deal agreed in January. Why can't we show such initiative ?
Because contrary to everything coming out of the club we're skint. Think about it, Tony is NOT repeat NOT giving PW a fair chance of keeping the club in the division despite his "Premier League" rhetoric which neither I or many more Millers fans buy.
We aren't skint. We have a budget, work to that. Bolton got bailed out after they signed Doidge on loan with an agreement to sign him permanent in January for a reported £1 million. Doubt he's worth that but that's what we're up against. There's nobody to bail us out or Tony Stewart won't let anyone else in. Ron Hull?

They paid a 'seven figure sum' for Doidge. So far four appearances and no goals. Time will tell whether of not he was worth the money. I doubt it. I doubt he is any better than what we have already got. I've said it before - £1m buys you very little these days. We would need ten times that to significantly improve our side.

smiler and I keep saying to you Keifer Moore was £750k and he would get more goals than Smith and Proctor combined, add Kiefer Moore to this squad and perhaps an old experienced late in career midfield general and we would have a chance of staying up, at the moment Warne will have to be the second coming of christ to keep us up, bloke is doing his best but the board are letting him down and misleading the fans with the discussions on premier league.

@ derbymiller, what gives you the impression Barnsley want to sell ? They're top end League 1 with a chance of promotion, a financially sound club and if I'm not mistaken KM has a release clause in his contract which is around £1M. Barnsley would want £1M and we would have to pay him between £8k - £10k a week and offer him a 3yr contract. It's not going to happen. He's a damn good top end League 1 player that should get you 20 goals a season in that League. He's unproven in the Championship, 20 games and 5 goals for Barnsley last season, granted he will score more than Smith or Proctor. Barnsley fans are split on his value to the team in the Championship and it has already been mentioned, you don't get much for £1M in the Championship.
The striker situation should have been sorted pre-season not in January. KM is not going to happen.
When Barnsley signed Moore in the January window last season they were just outside the relegation places. They were struggling to score goals. They signed Moore on the basis of his goals for us in League One. He went on to score four goals for them in the second half of the season and they went down. I'm not saying he is a bad player or that it was his fault they went down. I like Moore a lot. I am though saying that it is always true that players who aren't here always look better than players who are. Its always tempting to think that by adding this player or that player we will be so much better. But it didn't work for Barnsley. It isn't that simple. Bolton signed Doidge for £1m and Ipswich signed Kayden Jackson for the same amount. No doubt Doidge will score today (karma) but I would have you a sportsmans bet or a tenner for the Rotherham Hospice that Doidge and Jackson don't score more than a dozen goals between them this season.
Jackson is never worth money paid for him. Doidge I'm not sure, unproven at this level. Could be a good buy if given the chance but a risk if it's going to work. I've said this before Kieffer Moore I'd go up to a Million for him. Him & Roth U are a fit. For that money he's the one player we know what he can bring. Was good enough when he was here. Good risk I would say.
Who said he was a bad player? He took his goal well. He was bound to score after a thread was started about him! In fact I'm blaming Splinter for the lost two points. Is he now worth £1m after scoring his first goal of the season?

Thanks Smiler !! But he did take his one chance whilst all and sundry were missing ours. Can't for the life of me see what Vassell brings to the party. Proctor despite now being even slower is more focussed as a finisher.
I watched a lot of him last season on what was then CH5 highlights. I knew what he was capable of. Took his goal well but no way would we pay £1m. We would probably have offered a 1/4 of that. That's why we never sign anyone whose on the way up. We sign them on early retirement like Potter & Jones. Anyone who thinks they are good signings don't think like me.
