I always thought Southgate played 3-5-2 to keep Trippier & Walker in the same side but England haven't got any wingers anyway. It's a way of playing 2 up front. Shaw & Gomez weren't disasters or world beaters. Midfield was there one. Henderson was shocking. Dele Alli & Lingard were never involved.
