I think it probably shows that Warne is going to go with one up front certainly between now and January.
He has got Smith, Proctor and Vassell as outright striking options and in most games you need to use at least two of them even if playing one up front, because the one usually needs subbing (its hard work up there) or an extra one goes up top to chase the game.
Looking now at the total business done over the summer and comparing the squad that saw us promoted the net differences in terms of the payroll are;-
Emmanuel not here anymore Yates, David Ball, Purrington and Ihiekwe out on loan
Vyner, Manning and Raggett in on loan
Robertson in (no transfer fee - may have been a signing on fee - don't know) Vassell in (no transfer fee - may have been a signing on fee - don't know)
Towell and Rodak - loans repeated Dom Ball out and sent back out
Forget Bray and Onniarise. Their wages are probably not that significant in the scheme of things.
We have Proctor back of course.
Net = about same size squad. Wage bill probably the same or similar this season compared to last, although we don't know if we are paying a bigger proportion of wages now for the loanees.
I defend the club as a rule. I am inclined to think that the owners do the best they can. I have to say though that like for like, it is difficult to see how we have in any way invested financially in the playing staff for our tilt at Championship survival. We have shuffled some in and some out, and maybe the calibre of player has improved marginally, but probably short of what I (Mr Cautious) was expecting.
I can't see that any questions about the playing budget were raised or at least dealt with at the Fans Forum. I can't believe the question wasn't asked.

Forgot a couple more. Start again. Senior squad now compared to Wembley. Out: ***mings, Ihiekwe, Purrington, Emmanuel, David Ball, Yates and Lavery. In: Vyner, Jones, Raggett, Robertson, Vassell, Manning. No transfer fees. Query loan or signing on fees. Probably nothing substantial. Query bigger wage bill? Probably marginal. On the assumption that our revenue will go up (TV money, commercial income and bigger average gates) it doesn't seem that our expenditure is keeping pace. Perhaps this season is being used to pay debt down? Who knows? It does beg the question though.

of course this season is being used to pay down debt. there is no intention to make any real effort to stay in this league or to try and compete. The board know we are a league 1 club that will occasionally go to league 2 and may have a season on the championship and that will balance the books over a ten year period.
If I had your view on Rotherham United, football and the universe, I think that I'd pack it all in and take up topiary..
Have Tony Stewart, Paul Warne, Paul Douglas et al confided in you, or is it merely your conspiracy theory. Is it your opinion that the Millers were promoted last season by. mistake?

In comparing the Outs to the Ins, I reckon PW has achieved a substantial improvement in quality without spending a fortune. The only out who would get in today's team is Emmanuel over who we had no control unfortunately. Raggett, Robertson, Vassell and Manning are all quality additions and the jury is out on Vyner and Jones - they may well come good? In financial terms, I would imagine our wage bill for every player in the squad (plus the management) has increased on the assumption that for gaining promotion to the Championship, everyone received an appropriate pay increase? It's all supposition though and I doubt anyone of this forum has any close insight into our financial matters. I'd describe our current squad, compared to the Wembley squad, as frugal improvement!

I thought now the window has closed it was worth summarising the business we have done.
I think I would agree Glenn that comparing the squad now to the squad at Wembley we have probably improved, and I suspect that we have probably increased our wage bill though perhaps not that significantly.
For the record, I have got no problem with paying debt down if (and it is all speculation of course) that is what we are doing.
I do also get though that sometimes you have to speculate to ac***ulate. If we could stay up this season we would obviously be in line to reap the reward of the extra revenue next season as well. There is always a balance to strike.
I think our record outlay is still around £400,000, which is very modest for a club in The Championship, and in the absence of information from the club I can see why some supporters get frustrated when we are told (as we are from time to time) that there is money to spend but little is actually spent. There seems every summer to be a gap between what supporters are given to understand about money being available etc, and the reality of how things pan out.
As with a lot of things, my beef isn't so much the way that the club is run but rather with the apparent mixed messages and a bit of a lack of transparency.
League One side Bradford City have signed Rotherham striker David Ball on a season-long loan deal.
The 28-year-old agreed the switch before the loan deadline on Friday, but the Bantams had been waiting for the Football Association and the English Football League to ratify the transfer.
think ball going is an indication that warne is going for hoof ball and personally think its mistake because if he played the 4 4 2 with ball and or proctor and smith we would score goals.
but i will let the results judge this decision

I always say Da Ball cause Dom Ball is still our player. Of the two Dom Ball would have been good enough for the championship but didn't fit in with the Warney drinking tea & running round cones rule on players. Da Ball never rated him from day 1. Lightweight.
Long shot but my hope is preferbly a Right back young/good enough gets released by his club on mutual consent in our price range. That's definately our weak position. Bad management going into 4 months of football without a Right back good enough.
