Don't think there's a good word for him on MM. They don't get it. He's a star. Get a holding midfield player so he can push further forward then you'll see a player. He's not going to beat players but got goals in him, can head a ball. Would say there's only him & Ajayi worth anything like a fee in the side. Can't understand why we haven't got them both on longer contracts.
I have got to say that in every game I have seen Will Vaulks play at Championship level he has been half a yard slow onto second balls (whether that is his reading of the game or his speed over the ground or both I don't know but it gets him a few yellow cards and free kicks concededwhen he regularly arrives that split second late) and his passing has been below par. On Tuesday I thought that after a couple of very wayward passes he hid a bit and stopped making himself available to receive the ball, which to his credit is not something I would normally associate with him.
Don't get me wrong, he wasn't our worst player on the night, but for my money he falls into the same category as several other of our players - competitive at League One level but not quite Championship standard. I thought that when Manning moved into a more central area in the second half he gave a better display of central midfield play and drove us along better.
I can accept by the way that this is the reality of life for us in The Championship. That extra 5% that most opponents have over us is what you pay for, and will more often than not make a difference over 90 minutes and certainly over a season. I like the attitude that Vaulks has and his versatility and think that he is still an important member of the squad, but I haven't yet got a copy of the T71 patented Vaulks Tinted Glasses.
Vaulks will come good if we play him right. He's not a midfielder to sit in front of the back 4. More forward, he's always looking to get space for a shot. Unlike Palmer who apart odd pass what does he do? Not a tackler or doesn't get forward.
A shortage of MF generals - players shoehorned into "Not quite" their natural positions makes the whole team look - play at 80% of potential. The managers job is to select players and a system that suits those players so they obtain 100% and the team plays to a greater % than the team
( on paper ) is credited to do. Like NW in the great escape. But he through the kitchen sink at it and played Freck's through injury......ok when you are a visiting manager - not wise to do that when you expect to stay a while.
