IF YOU WERE PAUL WARNE

Permalink

We've all vented our spleens after the Hull disappointment but now we move on to Sunday and Millwall. There have been lots of suggestions about what was wrong on Tuesday, including tactics and individual players. So, if you Paul Warne, what formation would you put out and which individuals would you select - and possibly why!

I'd go with a 3-1-5-1 formation;

                         Rodak

   Jones             Raggett         Robertson

                         Ajayi

Williams             Palmer             Manning

              Vaulks            Vassell

                        Smith

Rationale;

Everyone is playing on their natural side

Ajayi in midfield to give us some control and ball winning potential

Vaulks and Vassell are athletic enough to get up in support of Smith

Would have had Forde in for Vaulks but V's throws are one of our few attacking threats

Newell and Proctor to be introduced as impact subs.

It's not easy being a manager!

Like that T - could work if runners are covered protecting the back four....naturally.....that should be core team from now on and a sensible set of management instructions. All match fit now so no excuses. Nearly got it right will Hull draw.....said draw Sunday also....

If Bornamiller was Paul Warne we would be pushing for promotion this season. Only joking!

If I was Paul Warne, I would be looking for the next decent job that came along somewhere else while my stock was still high. He is on a hiding to nothing with us. Not joking!

If I was picking the team for Sunday, I would be tempted to play 442 and take it to Millwall, who would set up the same way. Pick the biggest, most physical side I could muster and go really direct, load balls into their box and try to muscle three points out of it.

We never see knocks and niggles of the players in training so can never be too critical with team selection. Horses for courses smiler....the Blackpool pair though is interesting - what is happening there ?

I definitely would have the Sean Dyche defence as my No 1 play. QPR will get back to basics. All top teams play it to draw "better teams" out because a point ( especially away ) is goooood. The impatient team though are always punished because they over commit and leave themselves open to a counter attack. Just need the management nouse and enough time to master it - but I don't think Mr Warne has that in his locker ..... it's brilliant to watch if you admire tactics.

I wonder if Robertson is been given the Dom Ball treatment - he'll have a bad attitude soon ! Just can't squeeze Wood out can he - PW - Wood have realy got it together haven't they ? It's getting weird now !

We appear to be at the experimental stage with the team. I don't think we've fielded our best starting eleven and then introduced impact substitutes when required. As someone has already mentioned, Robertson is looking superfluous to requirements. That cannot be right, surely? Is he injured?
One day Warne will hopefully find the right mix of players and produce a winning team/formula.

Robertson looked the business v Cardiff and Raggett a tough nut - so development into a good partnership. But there appears to be an unhealthy relationship between PW & Wood. Robertson - if frozen out will soon develop a bad attitude. Should we call it Wood United from now on because he's been culpable for the misery in front of our goal but like Warne he appears to be Teflon coated. Big question - why a 2 year deal. Where did a future based on youth go......We'll at least 20 - 30 would do but Wood is so slow and always chasing the game never commanding the defence. ?????

As Wotsisname rightly says we don't see all that goes on day to day. Players carry knocks and niggles, some take time to settle at a new club or in a new area, form comes and goes etc. The fact that we don't have 100% sight of it leaves the door ajar for conspiracy theories and criticisms that can be wide of the mark, but I suppose that is a fact of football life.

Observation is not conspiracy. But the use of this terminology exudes an agenda that is patently obvious. Genuine concern the club ( team ) isn't being objectively selected. The two good defenders being sent out diminishes the pressure on players to perform. All clubs state that pressure of a good squad encourages individual performances but if the old guy always gets the shirt - what's the point! That's where bad attitudes start.

Raggett and Robertson looked good to me

I still think 3-5-2 is the best option and Mattock out on loan anywhere away from the club

 Sorry but you have noted that Wood is playing and Robertson is not, and you have leapt to the unfounded conclusion that the said state of affairs exists because Wood is Warne's mate and that better players than Wood are excluded for that reason.  That is a conspiracy theory 100% pure and simple.  You really haven't got a clue why Robertson isn't playing, have you?  You don't rate Wood - fair enough - but when it comes down to why Wood is playing and Robertson isn't it you are guessing without knowing the facts and are latching on to a line of reasoning that suits a couple of your oft repeated themes i.e Wood is crap and Warne is weak.  If that is what you choose to think so be it, but don't dress fiction up as fact.

"but you have noted that Wood is playing and Robertson is not" That's not fiction or conspiracy theory. And PW's relationship with Wood is obvious and recognised over PW's tenure....he obviously "trusts" him but personally I've saw Robertson and Raggett v Cardiff and he looked very good indeed but he hasn't had a look in. Is that conspiracy or fact of life.

If you want to suggest that Warne is a bad judge of a player that is one thing, although if you are talking about whether Robertson should be in instead just bear in mind that you have no idea whether there might be some legitimate reason for Robertson not being in the match day squad. But what you are suggesting s that Warne is spending the clubs money and jeopardising our chances of winning games (and his own chances of doing well, of furthering his own career, of getting his own bonuses, of other players getting win bonuses etc) just to help out his mate. Quite frankly you're talking out of your arris.

Been a few mates signings & contracts given out. Potter & Price signings springs to mind, Price a 2 year contract is questionable. Jones & Wood 2 year contracts don't add up. Wood got us up but that's what he gets paid for. He reminds me of an old relative, you don't see him getting older but he's slowing down. Warney is working within his budget. I like the look of Robertson, he has pace. Would like him & Ajayi our centre backs. Only way we'll stop up is to play 4-5-1 but could see Vassell playing on the left.

Against Everton lets see what Hinds can do. Got to push our young players good enough through.

Pure supposition sunshine as this is a fans banter site - there are many questions regarding PW reactions to games. His last interview he appeared to choose a tactic to suit the last game / previous games. For example: "we went two up front at Brentford and we're stuffed" - so he went one up front v Hull ? ? Most fans thought defencive away v Brentford yet more expansive v "kick them when they were low" Hull. The exact opposite the fans wanted and common sense dictated. As for PW and players. The six yard box is currently unprotected. As was it was during PW's 60% of the last championship campaign. With Wood at the centre of a defensive debacle. We are not learning are we. As for intellectual capacity I worked closely with many teachers during a period I was invited to join the 'Curriculum development Group' - many years ago - and some of the most basic ideas regarding cross curricular activities were regarded as a thing of wonder - teachers are not always the brightest - they are abused by this government and I wouldn't swap - but being a teacher is not a passport to success / automatically open to change / are best people to drive change. Never been invited to a club BBQ and I have no axe to grind with PW...so no relationship issues with him but he appears to be just following club policy / press releases. Looking forward to being amazed at loan signings - as this kid looks lively but we need better......Millwall a must win...UTM FINGERS CROSSED !

Somehow I guessed that you weren't a teacher since you think that defensive is spelled with a c
