I see in the interview ahead of the wigan game that we are only hoping to bring in 1 player before 31st August, maybe 2. That there are only 4 players that are good enough to strengthen the squad.
A genuine question does anyone on here really think this squad is only 2 players away from being capable of competing at this level?
Last week I would have said 2 permanent signings & 2 loans. Now we are down to 2 loans, could be 3 but that would mean one out of what would be 6 loans dropping out of the matchday 18. Got to hope Hinds & Wiles come through & we keep clear of injuries, suspensions. Vaulks is already on 2 bookings. Central midfield & Right winger to start with. Up front two that played Saturday would say that's it in strikers we have good enough for the championship. If we get a striker in got to be up to this level, right age.
I seriously doubt we are 2 players short of survival regardless of calibre.
Any addition is welcome but back to serious considerations. We can only work with what we have and I go back again to the collective being more important than focusing on what we don't have.
Last season and the season before was the same.
I don't know who were the ones complaining about evens player turnover but I guess the happy medium is nigh impossible with expectations as they are.
Of course if we had a squad of 50 there's no telling if that improves quality.
Let's hope the loans contribute as well as they have done last season. And let's take a lead from the gaffer and players who clearly are having to work their socks off.
Ideally however I'd like to see 2 attacking mids and a striker and a new right and left back and a quality centre back or two and we need a quality number two between the posts and possibly a manager with championship quality... And a Chinese, American or British billionaire _Russian is out of the question with all the political instability.
I wouldn't replace Miller bear though. He's done OK.
I don't think attacking Miller Bear is acceptable - I bought 3 toucans when they were mascots....all cost too much and not a left back between them. So stick with what we've got! Still can't get it through my head why we've sent out two capable defenders? Can't argue with a spreadsheet!
I tend to agree about the defenders going on loan. I did defend miller bear but it is not a time for him to sit on his laurels. He rather seemed overwhelmed by the goal celebrations when he should have been acting as a catalyst for the fans and players. Sure, he hugged a few and got a few hugs back but he had to hold his head on at one bit and staggered backward. For me that is unacceptable. Its not professional and its not championship mascoting. Thats a fact.
Being saying it for some time now. We need a quality left full back. Someone suggested that Newell could play in that position. Not at the moment he can't. He seems to be going through a bad patch. Mattock struggled against Ipswich's number 7, Edwards last Saturday. Warne needs to act pretty quickly. No point bringing in another striker or midfielder if we are wanting at the back.
If the one, possibly two incoming loanees are CMs, I'd be reasonably happy. All other areas of the team are relatively sound but if we can bolster the midfield, it will help all positions by giving better service to the front men and relieving the pressure on the back four.
By the way, in the goal celebrations on Saturday, Miller Bear was exposed when Vassell knocked his head off. In his panic to hide his true identity, MB put his head on backwards. It was a shock to me - I thought MB was a real bear! Rumours that his position is now in jeopardy, with Taylor pushing him as a replacement, are totally unfounded!
It wasn't so long ago that we were linked with the left full back Ricardinho who was playing for Oxford at that time. Ricardinho now plays for FC Twente Enschede.
Some still believe that we are okay with our current left full back position? Mmm. So, Mattock gets injured. What happens next? 1.We panic? 2.We plug the gap with either a midfielder/centre back, both playing outside of their comfort zones? 3. Sign another striker on loan ? 4.Sign a left full back on loan as a priority ?
It's a no brainer. We are still searching for a left full back on loan. It's so blatantly obvious.
COYR!!!!

I think we should try and understand the facts of life at RUFC. We have a "it'll do" attitude. That's it ! A bit like never getting your car serviced....it could last - but you'd never be sure the wheels won't come off.
Leeds away will be a big test - they won't take any prisoners under their new manager - the "quality" of our squad will be tested thoroughly. Ipswich were not a great test Leeds will be. Intriguing - player selection / set up / tactics - a gruelling point would be magnificent.
Left back is not top of our priority's. Got Hinds coming through, seen him stood out along with Wiles. Hope Rodak keeps fit, Price not for me. To answer your question Hillsborough miller we've only got Vaulks at the moment good enough in midfield, though Wiles is coming through. Unless Newell finds his form it's that bad on the wings Forde is back whose never beat a full back on his outside since he's been here. Up front same just hope Smith & Vassell keep going cause that's it up front.
We could have easily lost against Ipswich, then what. It's just delayed the urgency to get loan players in. Warney or whoever calling the shots are saying we might wait while end of August. Got Leeds away this Saturday, are we just going to accept another mauling. Then 2 home games we've got to target a min' of 4 pts from. That's how we are going to stop up. But the powers that be are acting like we've got everything covered. Not from were I'm sitting we haven't.
I do not think we are as strong as last year. We have lost towell and Emanuel and replaced with jones, for the first 11. I would have hoped we would have got 3-4 players with championship experience in either loan or perm to improve us further but that looks not to be the case.
It going to be a difficult season and every point will be so precious. Not really looking forward to game on Saturday as it seems Leeds really have found a manager to drive them forward.... maybe we can hope in putting 10 behind the ball and have them complain after that it’s not the right way to play football
Oh and please stop the banter about the wardrobe malfunction..... maybe wearing it backwards would help on Saturday??
i do feel sorry for warne he has obviously gone to the board with his shopping list and targets identified and he has come away with nothing because for what ever reason he hasn't been able to get his midfield sorted wages transfer fee , who we are
we are well aware that with promotion brings a financial dividend and also an increase of expenditure players wages etc.
so its has to be loans and i hope one of those is towell signing perm in January
tony has said there was a budget so some one has advised against spending it I have a suspect for that as i just dont think he is upto the job

A bit unfair. We don't know for sure what is happening do we, all we can do is speculate. I appreciate the concern, I'm concerned too and I'm certain management is without doubt. When all said and done we all know the score, we simply can't chuck money around like a man with no arms otherwise we end up with the likes of Bowery, JCH, Blackstock, etc al, expensive failures; surely that is one big lesson that has been learned. Also it doesn't matter whether we have the money or not, if players don't fancy the idea of being a Miller then we can't force them to come if other more glamorous clubs are in the offing. I'm certain PW is doing all he can, its his CV and reputation thats at stake as well as our position in the Championship.
Football is all about opinions. We don't see the players physical "niggles" and the plan the manager has set out for any particular game - so I tend not to play the team selection thing. All of the previous posts identify shortcomings in players ( and there are more! ) are merely observations and good ones. The mindset of the manager - what HE see's in players is somewhat strange - the fact that Yates is a player totally blows my mind. His own personal cliques (because that's what it is) is governing the club's way forward. IS THIS RIGHT ?
EVO ( love him or hate him ) governed by performance! The number of times I'very seen him - angry - pointing at a player - then the bench - was good for me! Comfortable players lack that edge!
Arm round management is OK if sanctions are available....you could say Ball has suffered sanctions.... but are those sanctions equally applied and based on football....I don't think so . A nice guy but still some people are more equal than others and I prefer the football to rule! Example - Wood contract? Good for the club or letting Wood get his journo jobs before we stop his wages....Nice - but not good for RUFC.
"if he can get one attacking midfielder who would you drop vaulks or palmer" Palmer has been invisible thus far for me. Vaulks is too combative / flexible to drop - we need more like him but others with the tactical brain to drive the play to suit the team we're playing ! But you have to get the ball first and love it a bit more - we haven't showed many periods of keep ball yet. But as I said - you have to get it! Vaulks is a threat too and can head the ball. No he stays.
Again - not Warny's fault...when is this propaganda going to stop. TS's best thing he's ever done. All the ills of previous years blamed on the failure of individual managers. Rubbish. Every bad thing that happens - "it's not Warny's fault" - when exactly does Warne become "Manager".
Warne isn't the Messiah - He's a very naughty boy!
Bornamiller. Sometimes you make some sense, other times you make nonsense.
You question Warnes mindset and his ability to pick a good side and his methods. You may be right, but look at the record book. Within 18months of taking over as manager, a job he initially didn't want, he turns round the fortunes of the club and wins promotion back to the Championship at the first time of asking. Not bad for a rookie, particularly when many believed it was his fault we were relegated in the first instance. If that were the case surely he redeemed himself. Even in your eyes you have to acknowledge that aint a bad record. If you or I knew more about football than those presently in charge of the playing side, then you or I would be sat behind the managers desk right now.
we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. All we can do is debate assumptions and you assume we all think the bad we endured was all the fault of previous managers. Well whose fault was the failures. You sarcastically claim that - "it's not Warny's fault" -. But what is Warnes fault? Taking a poison chalice that K.Jackett ran away from and then in less than a year gaining promotion? Presently sitting mid table in the Championship?
I don't recall anyone on here calling him the "Messiah" either. I'm not a so called happy clapper, neither am I a Warne apologist and I can think of two big mistakes which in my opinion he has made, not least his team selection and preparedness for the Brentford game. But despite his fallibility as a manager, I just don't get this constant dig, dig, dig, against a guy who has exceeded all expectation.
Is its just because he doesn't do what you want him to do?
It's a quip from a film towd'. That's all - a bit of fun - but the TS genius being a truth said in jest. PW is a manager.....when is the honeymoon over. It was for me some time ago when he didn't know how to play a defensive formation. If that continues and we pay toe to toe football we are toast - like we were under his stewardship the last time we were championship fodder.
The life of Brian towd'. I've no axe to grind although I've never been invited to a BBQ. And green tea is available at my house should anyone want some.
Looking forward to what "quality" loans we bring in as I relate this directly to our management teams - let's say "experience" - looking forward to being impressed!
I make sense when you agree with you I guess - I don't make sense when you don't agree with me. Pretty normal for football forums I'd say.
