Rodak saved us and a more "clinical" team would have won but Smithy's toe end scored at a good time to score really - virtually last kick. Small margins today but the luck fell to us thank you very much. Vassell when match fit will be a handful. Obviously a better day for the defence but that's a lot to do with opposition today - still too many easy chances in our box first half particularly. A supporter shouted to Hurst "can we have Emmanuel back" Hurst clearly nodded and said Yes. ?

It was a hell of a battle but grit & determination won out in the end.

Nice to see Hursty getting in on the banter. Result and a clean sheet important today, need it in the mindset that we won't get turned over at home and what we pick up away is a bonus. 1 down 12 more to go (and possibly against a rival of our 8 team mini league)

I thought that both defence and attack had good days today. Mattock was run ragged by Edwards but he won't come up against many better right wingers this season. Smith and Vassell show signs of developing a really good understanding and they both work exceedingly hard. Ajayi was class and Wood looked comfortable whilst Vyner probably had his best game for us yet.

The elephant in the room though is the midfield. Newell struggled to make any impact, Palmer was off the pace, Vaulks' distribution and reckless tackles in dangerous areas were awful and Taylor ran about with no quality or end product. We are really desperate for a leader in the middle who can break up play and can show some composure on the ball. One decent player could bring better performances out of the rest but frankly I do not see Taylor ever making Championship standard and Vaulks will need to up his game considerably.

Hopefully the Wigan game will give us chance to see the likes of Jones, Wiles, Robertson and Williams play full games and impress Warne sufficiently for him to consider them as starters against Leeds. Even more hopefully, we get a Central Midfielder in who is going to help us establish some control in games.

Finally, what is the issue with Vaulks not taking throw ins? In the second half, when we desperately needed to get the ball into their box, he was instructed on three occasions from the sideline to leave the throw to Mattock. On each occasion, we lost the ball immediately which resulted in three breakaway attacks for Ipswich. Why wasn't he allowed to launch the ball into the box and at least give us a chance of an effort on goal!?

Delighted with the result but very realistic about the work that needs to be done to make us a contender for survival.

Onwards and upwards.

Said on MOTM post stand out players. Vaulks was on his own in midfield, no wonder he looked out on his feet near the end. Palmer may as well have been sat with me. Tried 4 wingers, I didn't see one between them. Vyner did better. Wood did his job but Ipswich had nothing up front. Still can't understand why Robertson isn't playing. Mattock was abit iffy at times. For Leeds game get those quality loans signed up. I don't know how we are going to play 2 up front against the better sides. Get a couple of strong midfield loans signed up, ideally one who can play on the Right. Pay Hinds & Wiles against Wigan, see if they've come on. They are our future.

"Taylor ran about with no quality or end product" - Totally agree but I think he's been asked to do jobs he's not best at due to player shortages. His best would be playing off a big guy and hassle the back four. Several players suffered the same fate - due to lack of appropriate personal. The guys arn't bad player just not in the positions they have been shoe-horned into. More REAL midfielders at this level please - that is the one player we really should have blown some pocket money on - everyone in the team would benefit from such a player.

first half we were somewhat lucky and Rodak was in great form.

Second half it opened up and gradually we wound and put some pressure on.

Ipswich lacked that cutting edge otherwise it would have been an easy away victory.

Overall I think the team has a bit more in it and we can expect some improvement.

Relegation looks nailed on however without record beating home points tally

I am away on holiday and didn't go, so have only seen highlights. Obviously the three points is massive as is the clean sheet. It shouldn't disguise the need for reinforcements though. Midfield is so vital and it is clear regardless of yesterday that we are short of quality in there. If we could only have one more player for me it would be a 'beast' to patrol the midfield and try and physically influence the game. Its good to hear that Vassell made an impact. He made a difference at Brentford. He could be a surprise package. Him, Smith and Proctor when fit will be a handful if nothing else. For now at least we aren't going to pass teams off the pitch but if we can bully and out-muscle them and work hard we will always have a chance.

At half time i was bored and deeply concerned as i don't recall any real shots or attempts. Second half more spirit and deserved a point. Liked Vassel's work rate and he was an example. Newell i cant work out - seems lost most of the time and Palmer not strong enough for this division. We are desperate for a true playmaker and a quality finisher. I though Semi was MOTM easy - he could be a decent sell on player for us in time.

Just back up to Scotland after seeing the game yesterday - I was going to write up my views, but basically your first 4 paragraphs say all I was going to say Glenn.

It felt sooo good to get the win and the confidence that will give the players is worth a lot.

It was the first time I'd seen Vyner and think, if he plays like that every game, right back is not an issue.

If we get Proctor back and he's as good as he was before his injury, that gives us a new striker - so, sort midfield and cover for mattock (or instead of Mattock) and we might be ok.

It was a tough call for MOM between Rodak, Semi and Vassell

long way to go, but great to get the points.

Semi's performance yesterday made me think that the idea of him playing in midfield is not so daft. In the entire team, there is only Semi and Smith who seem to have the composure to hold up the ball, look up and put in a decent pass. I wouldn't be against trying him in front of the back four (Vyner, Robertson, Wood/Raggett, Mattock) with Jones, Vaulks and Williams - Vassell and Smith in a 4-4-1-1 formation against Leeds.

Looking at the Leeds' performance at Derby, we're going to require all the team spirit we can muster plus a large slice of fortune to come away with anything next weekend. But a week's a long time in football and who knows who'll be in the squad next Saturday!

Wiles & Hinds I want to see start in the Wigan game. See if they as good as I thought. Ajayi Centre back that's his position. Need a couple of bodies in for next Saturday. Anything: points will be bonus against Leeds.
