Not many years we beat Orient in play off final , since then we have played three seasons in championship, one in div 1 , and believe it or not won another play off final ,this season we will be up against some absolutely giants of the football world ,tonight Orient play Eastleigh I know whose boots their fans would rather be .
I've read enough snipping at chairman and manager to last me a lifetime.
There are thousands of fans at other clubs who would give their arm to be in our position looking forward to this season .
All we are asking for is this coming home game show we have the players to make a season of it not be over before it starts like last time in the championship. Anyone can see we need a completely new Right hand side, that means Right back & winger. Central midfielder also. Striker as well. That's what's needed for us to compete in this league. What I'm hearing coming out of the club is we might sign one player then look at the loan market. Not what we want to hear.

A breath of fresh air - thanks Len. I was sharpening up my Bowie knife, ready for the Armageddon which recent posts had convinced me was coming. It seems incredible that we are one game removed from a fabulous Wembley final win (which went largely uncelebrated in some quarters) and yet after one Championship game, in which PW obviously honoured his promise to stand by his promotion team (that's his style and he's entitled to it) we find our Manager and Chairman and their methods being ridiculed. No amount of foot stamping on here will convince me that the management team haven't done their utmost to strengthen the squad as much as possible within the significant constraints that bound them; nothing will convince me that TS hasn't got the well-being of the town and the club at his heart and nothing will convince me that PW isn't a manager of substantial knowledge and potential, whose modern style might not appeal to all, but who will be the target of several other wealthier clubs if we are not careful.
I'm looking forwards to Saturday and to see the line up which PW puts out. I suggest his loyalty to the promotion team will not feature. I also look forwards to the end of August when we will see the raw material that we have to get through to the January transfer window. And I look forwards to the rest of the season - good or bad - because it could be a lot worse. Ask any Arsenal or Sheffield Wednesday fan!
"Looking forward to ......" is the active phrase here....but when the manager suggests he's put a glass ceiling on our wage structure then where do we go from there! PW has relieved the pressure from AS imposing such a restraint but are we to have no one who has tread the boards before? Is that realistically practical in today's market....or what we need ?
This a sounding off board NOT a board meeting....and we're all company men but there are product champions in my game and they are traditionally ( in football )' the manager who has his career ( CV ) to consider. When they ( like KJ ) hand in the resignation - we as fans think we'll he's said he can't / will not do it under these restraints - and we ( as fans ) know where we stand. But PW is the ultimate company man so who is the "product champion"....all we see is an underfunded production line. We are talking the talk - but not walking the walk. Sorry the team to a man is not at championship level so with all the good will in the world the togetherness is naive without a man like NW....and he turned his back on the job.
OK we'll do our best....oranges for Christmas kids !
If a jobs worth doing it's worth doing right and I've seen enough to have doubts on the level of those seconded into the key posts - we live in hope! But this is a moaning board - wouldn't say this to a Barnsley fan....just sounding off!
Great opening post. We are in a remarkably good state of health. I wouldn't change places with any of the clubs above us like Bournemouth or Wednesday who have built a houses on foundations of shifting sand, which will catch up with them sooner or later. Of course the club and the people who run our club shouldn't be immune from constructive criticism, but equally there is no need at all for thinly veiled or even plain insults and derogatory comments about people who very clearly have the clubs interests at heart and are doing their best. We might make mistakes and in this division we might struggle, but the big picture looks pretty good.

I totally applaud his loyalty to the Wembley team unfortunately they failed to deliver! in many areas of the pitch
Warne has been out trying to attract new players. sending player out on loan to free up wages etc.
But in regards tony Stewart yes he saved the club and has invested heavily in the club. but if he wants to be successful in the championship then he will need to invest more and like i have said before the evidence so far shows he is unwilling or unable to. I am not knocking him just stating a fact on the evidence shown so far. with two failed transfers the reason for which is either medical or financial either the agent or the club no one knows which.
hopefully his late night phones calls on Saturday will pay dividends
I also will be looking towards the team he picks tonight and also saturday team list onwards and upward lets hope it was just a early season blip
as for been a WEDS FAN NO THANKS GREW UP SMELLING THAT DUMP

I'm not going to message in hieroglyphics like bornImusthavemysay! You can't say anything against Tony Stewart but I'm not into history. I look at now. I want to see we are progressing. I don't expect us to be anywhere away from the relegation zone all season. But I don't want us cast adrift like last time in the championship. Sure Tony Stewart doesn't want that. But you can't get blood out of a stone. Need quality levels upping a few notches in our squad. You'd be walking round with a blindfold on if you couldn't see that.

t71 you and me are on the same wave length for a change

A smidgeon of sensibility among the rantings of others Glenn. Last season over 46 games was a success. This season after one game it's Armageddon, fuelled by our resident MM refugees, the artists formerly known as "go to home games, mean all" gwru and "one win in fourteen Alan Stubbs" lbj.
Lets start the game of Top Trumps lbj. I played with a guy who played in a Cup Final, and a Scottish guy who is now a Sky Sports pundit. Both were around 10 years older than me and towards the end of their careers.
While I'm at it lbj, why did Warne get the job? I'd appreciate your answer with proof. My opinion is that he is eloquent, speaks well, can forge a great team spirit and got the team playing better than the the sum of the parts last season. Plus he cut his professional football teeth playing with a guy who took Belgium to a third placed FINISH in the WORLD CUP.
And that's your opinion is it....great stuff.
Your propensity for "top trumps" indicates a childish attitude and I've known enough pro's to know that some are not the sharpest knifes in the drawer and many just played - and had virtually no interest in the game outside paid employment.
You think your a Guru great - enjoy yourself!
You are the one that thinks they are some sort of guru. Not me.
Hence your senseless rantings about "coaching"
"Stubbs was by far the best manager we had last year and his sacking cost us
( our chance ) of survival.
I am still gobsmacked that the Rotherham United football "fans" brainstrust didn't identify the well do***ented tactics of "the underdogs" yet kept screaming possession stats said it all.....they did....lol.....they told us that many Rotherham "fans" didn't know their @rrs's from their elbow !
Burton stats show low possession and they survived.....but that's ancient history now....you I seem to remember saying something like...."Please please no more"....and you got your way.....Warne...lol....enjoy him if you can....
Another one of the RUFC brainstrust said recently that he never fancied Fry - another Stubbs "Gem"....is that the same Fry that's just reached the final...lol
"England reached the final of the Under-20 World Cup for the first time by coming from behind to beat Italy"
Fry and the rest of the Stubbs "Rubbish players" became our best players....and the restraints placed on Stubbs became apparent.....and KJ ran a mile.
No Stubbs would have been planning for his second season in the championship now - had he been given one window to rid ourselves of the deadwood he inherited.....we may have made a cheeky bid for Izzy too...."
Thank you Len, Glenn, smiler and last but not Top Cat. You have restored my faith in the integrity of this message board. Three cheers to you and those of similar ilk who I may not have mentioned.
Now can you identify the MM day trippers you can identify them easily. And Derby and I were communicating with each others and the Miller Mad Morons took over. Well done boys - your shady levels will not be visited by the likes of me - I don't play tit for tat schoolyard pranks. Visions of you all giggling - jostling for the chance to tell frog what you're doing.
Banter - the slippery slope is here - mind your steps.
Kitty.....many a true word said in jest ! AS Suffered a far worse pre-season and brought in the likes of Izzy and world cup winning "youth" to develop - due his Everton experience of youth development.
I think ( if people study the reality of that period ) that what you have so eloquently written was correct and who knows ( given time ) we might just have survived - we shall never know....but reading it how you'very put it sounds reasonable. But you have to understand te problems Niel left us with - half a squad and aginger pro's on good money.
I could go on but your version is good....shame it wasn't given more time to develop what was needed then as it is now. But at least we're not spending a meagre budget just to get replacements from NW's Cull. We'll said lad !
