Over 200 free agents .....

In central midfield between the ages of 23-30 within europe are out of work, including Darren Gibson

If we have no intention to buy then let us at least

1. Take some gambles on free agents with experience, even on short contracts or pay as you play basis, remember they are out of work

2. Get help from Arnie, he will know the scandinavian markets and would make a great defensive coach, it doesnt hurt to ask

3. Look beyond the UK are we that arrogant that we think no foreign players can strengthen our team

We have to do something, because this squad is not strong enough to give us the basic chance. I do not expect it to be easy I think it will be very hard, but I do expect us to do at least as well as Burton Albion did and take it to the last game, is that so much to ask for

Nothing to disagree with there. Clearly we cannot compete in terms of wages, agents fees, and initial costs when looking at the home market for talent, we can't even sign a L2 player. So the alternative has to be beyond our shores. There must be people out there overseas who are capable, with talent and within our budget. As you say we won't know till we try

The league 2 player did fall through due to his hip problem didn't it. OK to play for Cambridge but to buy - too risky. If of course that is "the story" behind that deal? Still think a set of pro's at any level ( individually ) can be drilled into a combative force. That's down to management. Setting up to play football in league one NOT setting up to grind out a draw in championship.

I would guess the Maris deal fell through because our proposed payment structure wasn't acceptable to Cambridge. Shades of the ludicrous offer to Millwall for Gregory which was bandied as a £1 million plus deal. Wasn't our anonymous and apparently bypassed Head of Recruitment the European scout for Brighton ? Surely he must have some idea of the continental market. I find it rather questioning that this guy was appointed by Jackett and Portsmouth are now in the market for Towell !!

Matt Crooks from Northampton the next midfielder linked to us.

Hopefully Saturday convinced TS to maybe go that little bit further for some of PW targets.

"Matt Crooks from Northampton" That's surely is inspired! And have we set a self imposed glass ceiling on salaries so zero decent players will come to us - ****** negotiations - they won't come!
