The new season starts tomorrow and I wish all those travelling to Brentford a safe and successful journey.
What I find frustrating about this board is lack of belief by some contributors that Paul Warne does not have the best interests of the club at heart. His recruitment policy is criticised by uninformed people who do not know the costtaints he is working under. They criticise players the have never seen. They support players, such as Ben Wiles who has not played a league game and he should be in the team in front of established experienced players. Some contributors have inside knowledge of the medical history of potential players they think if you say you are interested in a player the club and the player have know right to refuse to come to Rotherham.
if our club is to succeed we need to get real accept what we are and support the management structure we now have.
in regards warne i would suggest the majority of us back him 100%. Speaking for myself I thought making him the manager was a mistake and happy to admit i was wrong.
The youth do deserve a chance how else are they supposed to develop. you will see many of our opponents this season will be playing their exceptional youth talent in some games this season. but you don't play youth for youth sake.
I think that most fans for clubs in a similar situation is that we get frustrated when we see our opponents buying players for x amount and yet so far we have 3 loans and 3 free transfers the stalled deals on towell and maris havent helped.
Yes we are a small club in a bigger pond. and i understand tony wants the club to be run on fiscally viable plan. unfortunately football doesn't work like that it and it is more often is just a money pit. this hasn't helped having no players to sell on for a big profit and money from future sell ons (barnsley) the extra money is coming from the chairman. Added to the fact we are not a players first choice club in many instances unless they are approaching the end of their career.
We all want our club to succeed and we pay our hard earned cash to support our team and cheer them on no matter what.
everyone has the right to an opinion even if they frustrate other posters with repetitive comments
I back the club. Managers come & go but the club will outlive us all. Warney surpassed all expectations last season. He's Tony Stewarts puppet. When he talks about we are not going to break our wage structure he's just Tones mouthpiece. That's not knocking him, the buck stops with the chairman so the manager jumps when he says or he goes.
Regards younger players. I've seen Hinds & Wiles play, they look ready to make the next step up to the 1st team. I wouldn't have no problem playing them against Brentford. Sooner them than playing playing players out of position. Rotherham fans like to see there own young players coming through but they have got to be good enough.
i think been the chairmans mouth piece is a description for all managers and to some degree most people who work it doesnt make sense to ridicule or slander your employer in public
and speaking from myself im a disheartened from the lack of transfer into the team I admit we dont a want a repeat of the evan approach . but its obvious to me we need some quality in the team.
The problem T71, if indeed it is a problem, is that we need to have experience and quality in the side week in week out; field players we know should be able to do a job. We can ill afford to blood young uns when we need to get the points on the board.
I do agree with you though, that we certainly do need to give the young guns the chance to earn their spurs; better to develop our own then take season long loanees to develop and showcase for other clubs to benefit, K,Moore for example.
They must have some way to go yet according to the management or, we could give them a go in cup games where a loss would not be detrimental to our league position. Alternatively wait and see if we get enough points to assure us of safety and then get them in.
You are also right about RUFC having a history of bringing our youth through. I immediately think of Finney, Philips, J.Breckin et al as well as developing players from non league such as Gerry Forrest, and Mick Gooding. So it doesn't always have to be an expensive shopping list, but when it seems we can't bring in L2 players then we may well have to fall back onto our own.
something is wrong somewhere because warne has said he has the funds after spending the cash on much needed upgrades to the training ground infrastructure or it just boils down to the 5 most probable issues
a) we are rotherham b) we wont pay the transfer fee c) we wont pay the wages d) we wont pay the agents cut e) all of the above

I would tend to agree with you Hillsborough. Yesterdays on off signing seems to be a repeat of previous seasonal fiascos. But it really doesn't make sense to make all the effort of a season to achieve what we achieved and then sit back and watch it go belly up for want of having a proper recruitment strategy, or so it appears. I guess we shall just have to wait and see.
I'm afraid we will be relegated due to the small time mentality at the top of the club who show about as much ambition as they do business a***en. I do not blame PW or any of the coaching staff at the club nor do I blame any of the players who will try their best but while I don't expect this season's Championship season to be as bad as 2016/17 it will ultimately end in disappointment for both staff & fans alike. The straw that broke the camel's back as far as coming to the conclusion that we are shopping at the footballing equivalent of Poundland came with the rumoured disagreement over the fee for Maris, a CM for b***din Cambridge United in L2.
Possibly mate but the fact remains that last season's squad minus Emmanuel & Towell is nowhere near strong enough to survive in greed league 2 (Championship) & team spirit might just get us around 10 more points than in 16/17 but no more. We are justifiably everyone's tip for relegation but can anyone remember around 20 years ago when the likes of AFC Bournemouth, Millwall & Reading were regarded as "small clubs" but they had owners with drive & ambition, were open to investment & wanted to "grow" as a club......do we?....really?
I’m afraid this really is it. We are at the peak of our potential. A yoyo club bouncing between the 2nd and 3rd tier of English football. We ARE little old Rotherham with a finite source of income. Without an adventurous sugar daddy that isn’t going to change. Compared to where we might be (eg Stockport County) we are in an enviable position. Another season ahead mixing it with ex big boys of the Premier League. I’m not sure how we are going to fare but last season exceeded all expectactions. Team spirit is important and I think that was the difference that got us up. At this level of pro football I don’t think there is much between 90% of players in terms of fitness and skill. It’s what’s between the ears that can make all the difference. A manager who gives a player confidence, proper attitude and a willingness to go along with an intelligent game plan. That‘s how Neil Warnock transformed the squad and brought about the great escape. Paul Warne is part way there. At the moment he just lacks the wily experience of a Warnock. Are we going to be patient and give him the chance to develop that craft?
Hobson's choice Royston, but Warne has proved to be a well capable manager, who deserves our support. If we fail we fail but I think we will give it a good go. What annoys me is TS. Once again after the big Wembley day he was say there was money there for investment and yet we seem to be failing at the first financial hurdle again.
I think Warne can do it, but I expect him to have one hand tied behind his back.
Well I bought a season ticket again, having not done last year as a protest against the terrible way the club handled the last two seasons before.
Last season was great though, and Wembley yet another 'one of the best days of my life' experiences
So, I'm looking forward to this season, a lot of clubs below us would happily swap places with us, financially as well as being in the championship.
I'd love us to have pushed the boat out to secure the likes of Keiffer, Emmanuel (if he was ever for sale) and a couple more - but regardless, I'm determined to enjoy this season nomatter what... UTM
