Just for a bit of fun. Here are the quarter-finals. Just eight teams remain. Which four teams will progress through to the semi-finals? Not easy, is it? I'll post my four teams later.
Fri July 6: Uruguay v France - Nizhny Novgorod, 3pm (Match 57)
Fri July 6: Brazil v Belgium - Kazan, 7pm (Match 58)
Sat July 7: Sweden v England - Samara, 3pm (Match 60)
Sat July 7: Russia v Croatia - Sochi, 7pm (Match 59)
France that's my banker to progress to the semi finals against? Belgium if Matinez starts with side that finished against Japan or Brazil I haven't been totally sold on them but if they played as I said Firmino in place of Jesus would be a bigger threat.
Got to be England but don't start with Sterling, he's got no confidence playing for England. Going for Croatia for last semi final place.
I think it would be a good idea to have all entries in by 3.00pm this Friday, July 6 before a ball is kicked between Uruguay v France - Nizhny Novgorod.
Uruguay,Belgium,Sweden,Croatia. Don't think we are smart enough to beat a solid ordinary Sweden but Southgate is a lucky manager as the way the draw has panned out has proved. With all the best teams in the other half of the draw we will never have a better chance of reaching the final.
There's already been a mixed bag of opinions on here about the teams who may be involved in the semi-finals/final of this illustrious tournament. I was half expecting a diplomatic row to blow up after the alleged novichok incident in Amesbury and the England team having to consider walking away from the the World Cup tournament after the UK government had pointed the finger of blame in the direction of the Kremlin.
First known semi-final France (Macron's Marvels) v (Baudouin's) Belgium
Well done, France! Even though I had been singing their praises on an earlier World Cup post stating how 'resilient' they are. I chose 'a very good outfit', Uruguay, instead.
Who'd have thought that would happen to Brazil? I did for one. Neymar Junior over cooked his tumbling act at what may be his last World Cup. Fellaini and Kompany played really well for Belgium.
Macron's Marvels are now awaiting the winner of the Croatia v England encounter.
Experienced Croatia versus the much younger England team. I'll just leave it there.
