Will England ever

lift the football World Cup trophy ever again? It would be a big kick in the Urals for President Putin if we were to be successful on his turf. We've probably got more chance of reaching the semi-final of the FA Cup next season. Just saying.

Not while we continue to suck in the majority of what the world offer in place of our own coming through. Although the FA may have more power to stop this after Brexit and we can manipulate the labour laws.

The FA are hell bent on making their DNA philosophy work. And to be fair its a 'system' that has had a lot of funding thrown at it and some very intelligent minds behind it, not just in football either. To make the message clear on how we play and giving consistency through the ages from U16s upwards makes complete sense - the message is the same to England players no matter the age or management - therefore easing the step up or transition. That's all well and good but when the pool is smaller, devoid of top real world class talent, you're only going to get so far. That said we were in the same state in 1990 - hardly any perceived world class players other than Shilton, Barnes & Linkeker?, that was the 1st World Cup I watched and is the last time we did better than the sum of parts.

Now we have what Kane and Ali? - that's it - or it appears that's it before a ball is kicked. I think in 8 years we'll be much stronger but in my mind all comes down to how much muscle the FA wanna throw at the government to rescue the game in this country.

I think we'll get the 2 wins we need before being taught a lesson by Belgium. May get through the 1st knockout with a bit of luck but don't see it being any further - is that success for such a young group? - perhaps, is it a failure with a country our size, with it's football tradition and resources? - totally.

the the only thing positive that MAY HAPPEN UNDER BREXIT

Historicaly the person to whom all the blame for our under performing team was greg dyke. when he helped create the premier league break away from the FA to gain exclusivity rights

then he has the gall to blame other factors when he came head of the FA

in my opinion the FA needs to grow a pair and start telling the premiership to start playing more british nationals in the first team

the fa has got the powers to reign in the big clubs but are reluctant to do so.

germany is a good example

I'd have just picked players with enough ability with that will to win spirit. I can't see that in Ashley Young Sterling Rashford. But were these players are somebody tell me. Cause even in the championship the top sides don't have that many players in there side qualified to play for England. These good sides in the world cup will swat a side away like us with players knowing they are going back to there millionaire wages when it's all over. Nothing will change for the foreseeable future.

I reckon some of the players aren't worthy of pulling on the shirt. They haven't got the technical skills or nous necessary to compete with let alone beat most of the other nations taking part in the tournament. International football is much different to the cosy football played in the Premier League. Some of the players will have to grow some extra large ones before the tournament starts. England as a country is not well liked in Europe. Putin isn't keen to become our best mate any time soon. It's gonna be a rough ride for both supporters and players when they set foot in Russia. Is it a disaster waiting to happen? As long as England supporters keep a low profile, don't wear the team colours, stay within the confines of their digs and don't use public transport when travelling to the England games. It ain't gonna be a picnic, that's for sure.
Welcome to Russia? You're very welcome to it.

Looked at the draw as far as the quarter finals, can't see England getting any further than that. By my reckoning we can't play Russia so that's a bonus regards wellbeing of our fans. Though need to be extra careful at all games.

I wouldn't contemplate going to any World Cup, but I just don't understand why anyone would go to this one. It shouldn't be there at all, for all sorts of reasons. I can't see how anyone would get any pleasure out of visiting a hostile environment where the threat of serious, organised violence will always be around the next corner. Wrong place at the wrong time and it could go horribly pear shaped.

On the playing side, the fact is that a lot of what used to be the peripheral nations are a lot stronger than they used to be because they have players who are used to playing around the world. There are very few whipping boys these days. We have only ever won one tournament even when we were relatively good and that was at home. Now there are many nations who have caught us up. We are what we are - about the eighth best team in the competition or thereabouts.

We have a chance of winning it (at least it won't be 90 degree heat which usually kills us off) but it is a slim chance. We have some good players but not enough outstanding ones. Unfortunately there is the usual mis-match between reality and expectation which must weigh heavily on the players.

We have done well at world cups at age level lately which perhaps gives room for hope for the future, but of course we have had several Golden Generations who haven't done much. As is often said, it is the hope that kills you.

21st November to 18th December 2022. Make a note in your diaries for the FIFA World Cup taking place in Qatar.
In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the UAE, and Egypt, among other Gulf states, cut off diplomatic relations with the country, accusing it of supporting and funding terrorism and manipulating internal affairs of its neighbouring states, an escalation of longstanding tensions with Saudi Arabia.
All in all the perfect place to host a football tournament.

England will not win the trophy in 2022 either. We may not even qualify. Anyway, who wants to play football in the desert on the lead up to Christmas? No, me neither.

My negativity is now fast becoming so tangible it can be sliced, diced, added to a stew pack stuck in an oven for two and a half hours to create a sumptuous meal.

No chance. The England side is a national disgrace. Compared to the fabulous strides made in many other sports and considering the money and infrastructure nothing short of a complete failure.

Of course its the FA thats the problem.

Their decisions have proven to be shambolic time and time again. Since the fortunate 1966 world cup we have produced no team capable of winning That should really be the end of all discussion. FA and the lack of professionalism. The End.

Only good thing for many of us is that we have seen the top end of football for what it is . And we know longer care.

Result= happy!

To most players playing for England is a chore & for that reason alone we will never get anywhere in International Football.

Looks like the end of this thread and England's chances of ever lifting the trophy in the World Cup. That's a contradiction in itself don't you think? Trophy/Cup?
England's fortunes will now be followed on the World Cup thread on this site according to the mod.

See you on the other side.

Yep, they've just battered the Russian women at football. I hope the PC brigade know I mean. We don't want an international incident.

Before anyone makes another statement about the England football team bus. I would like to say that there is no truth in the rumour, doing the rounds, that the team coach is now stood in the Heathrow Airport short stay car park.

Still think we are a long way off, too many players who have their heads up their arses, and they dont seem to have the same passion as other teams. Spain is a confederation of different cultures who dont like each other, but have managed to pull it together, we have one culture but they seem focused on the dollars

Some of our England players haven't got the hunger as they are already minted.
