Yeah - the same business plan as ourselves - a manager moaned and left due to that "adequate budget" and relegation. As sure as eggs are eggs - YOYO time. Hopefully we can start the upward "YO" at Wembley but put off the downward "YO" a few seasons.

The championship is getting ever harder and going up with that Barnsley ( PW ) "team spirit" is no longer enough.

But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it - but all those that hated - dispised - misunderstood the Burnley low possession - backs to the wall tactics get ready because if we don't master it we'll be down in one season.

Wood and Warne will be out of their depth for sure - time for another trip to Ireland - although the Scottish courses are the better ones - allegedly.

Yes it looked so bright for them from the envious position of being a miller last and this season. However , despite them having that little bit more than us it wasn't nearly enough.
It's a reality check for sure.
I will be amazed and chuffed to bits if we go up but if we don't ...well ,I will content myself with the reality that one needs a really good solid team at L1 level and then adequate everything to survive in the championship.

We don't have either this year so it will be a difficult season if we did get promoted.

Being really honest, I'd prefer the management team to see if they can produce an outstanding team in L1.

Perhaps that's the real test for us as a club . If we can win the L1 championship then it means something so much more than a play off win in slightly strange league this year.  I wonder really what is in the mind and heart of each fan and especially those with excellent football knowledge aka the management team.

Trouble is might not happen - plus the poor level at league one will be like walking on the moon - it's easier - but the muscles weaken due to the low gravity.....NO GET OUT ASAP AND FLEX THOSE MUSCLES !

After seeing us at Wigan would I say they had more quality than us 11 v 11? No - ok that was one game, it's clear what they have is more consistent players which is what money buys you hence theirs and Blackburns points haul. We have a young group, youngsters = inconsistency, maybe the hope is that with experience they will gain the level of consistency we need. Remember Joe Skarz? - not the best left back we've ever had but would always give you a 7 out of 10. If we can get the players to perform to a level consistently we won't struggle but that's the holy grail isn't it. You can lack quality but if you can get consistency you can still do well, that's what makes football so great. For consistency you also need that in management and in the backroom staff. Changing managers every 5 minutes destroys that instantly.

I really hope we do it, we're in this position so lets have a go. Wednesday did it 2 years running, and look at them now - a mess, with some very expensive players on their books. As long as we're sensible and have learned the lessons from going up last time I see no reason why we can't compete enough to be 7th-10th from bottom.

Gonna be an interesting couple of weeks!

I think as fans we can also have more realistic expectations if we go up. Last time we were as naive as the club were. I'm 100% for going up even if we only get a season.

I had a tenner on Barnsley, Burton and Bolton to go down at 20 to 1.

Didn't foresee Sunderland so it was close but no cigar.

I'll not be overly disappointed if we don't get promoted through this season's playoffs. Automatic promotion with a large points tally would do it for me every time. On another thread I cast my doubts on our chances of promotion because we were unable to beat Charlton in the League. Charlton are now in the playoffs and due to meet Shrewsbury at home this coming Thursday. Lee Bowyer will certainly have his team fired up for that one. I'm hoping Paul Hurst can work some magic with Shrewsbury and do a job on Charlton.

Having said all that we did grind out the win over Blackpool which should now give us some confidence going into the away leg at Scunny next Saturday.

As we are a young team I worry that being promoted to the Championship so soon could break us rather than establish us as a force in that very difficult league. I still see us as a work in progress.

Apologies for putting a dampener on what is a bright and sunny Bank Holiday Monday.

UTM!

Barnsley will now be looking for a new manager. That will be a great challenge for anyone prepared to pick up the chalice.
