I went with  vaulks at right back in my second option as cover for williams i think emmanuel gets exposed hence warne has been playing forde on the wing as extra cover

If Wood doesn't play who will be the skipper? Week in and week out we field a team but who is the leader? Who is worthy of wearing the captain's armband? Shouldn't a regular team captain work with the manager/coach to pick the team?

Just saying.

You've got to pick your best side then chose the captain. Wood isn't an automatic choice so Vaulks is the captain on merit.

Side tomorrow barring injuries Rodak will in goal. Back 4 of Emmanuel Ajayi Vaulks Purrington. Forde will be on the right. Towell & Palmer in midfield. Smith up front. I'd have Williams on the left, Newell had his chance not taken it. Taylor up front, need a goalscorer.

There comes a time when a defensive set up begins to gell and one player covers for another - sadly the six yard box is still our soft underbelly and we show it too often.

The las two goals v Charlton shows all our deficiencies - so what can we do?

For me there's far too much space for attacking players - I'm a big believer in touch tight defender focused and picking up the appropriate adversary - tall v Semi or Wood....runners v midfielders...but touch tight with aggression to make sure the attackers are affected - no easy chances!

We have limited stock of players so the team defensively almost chooses itself ( apparently ) because others appear frozen out for some reason BUT that's not our problem - our problem is "system"...

.....Just pick up early and stick!
.....Go with and affect runners!
.....Attack to ball - don't let it bounce!
.....Stop the crosses!
.....Never get overstretched
( stopping a goal is just as important as scoring one )

Play like Kitty Gleeson used to organise his troops......

"Fight like glue - and stick together"

Bless him !

Now I get it. However, if Wood doesn't play and Vaulks goes off injured, who is the vice skipper?

Just asking.

My point? Who is the leader of the team on the field of play?  Most teams have a leader, don't they?

Just asking.

Could be Towell or it could be Rodak. The latter sees more of what is happening in front of him and also further up the pitch. Who knows?

I have to agree with the comment about not letting the ball bounce - it's a fundamental principle of defence and when your guy is 6 foot 5 then he has every chance of winning the header and not much of playing it on the ground around a tricky striker. Ajayi seems to want to let every third ball cone to feet - madness; just head the ****** out.

Yep, put the head/boot through the ball and send it up to any row A to infinity. The opposition cannot score from there.
