Another game against a beleaguered team near the foot of the table. Can't see us getting too much out of this one. A draw maybe? Winning games is now becoming a fading memory for us these days.
Hind sight is a wonderful thing
But I agree same starting 11 v Southend let wood forde earn their place back
I would still play Newell on left and Williams on right
Better side selected today. But got my doubts against a better side it would work. Can't have Towell & Palmer together in midfield. Vaulks can play at centre back he's like punching above his weight. Saw Ihiewke came on again for Mattock. Can't believe we haven't got Purrington on the bench in place of Yates. Like to get to get the best out of the squad for when we get in the play-offs. Not forgot we won, much welcome. But Warney seems to stuck in a rut with the same players week in week out.

I don't disagree with you just for the sake of it T71 but with respect I think you are wide of the mark lots of the time, and certainly with this post.
I am not sure whether you saw the game today. I am guessing not by your reference to Ihiekwe. I am not one of those posters who says that you can't have a valid opinion unless you go to every game. I don't go to all the away games. But I am not sure how you can say that having Towell and Palmer together can't work in midfield unless you have seen them play 90 minutes together.
We played more football today (in awful conditions) than we played in the three previous games put together. After a fairly even start we got the first goal and after that we never looked like getting pegged back. We controlled the game completely. Now if you like you can put that down to the fact that Northampton are poor, but after 36 games the league table says they are not a lot worse than Donny and no worse than MK Dons and Rochdale. Or you could if you wanted say that in part at least it was because we had someone pulling the strings in the heart of midfield who ran the show and controlled the tempo of the game and players who showed for and were willing to have the ball and pass it.
As for Warne being stuck in a rut, he couldn't be criticised for sticking with the same side during a fantastic winning run. When those players' form dipped he has made changes. Some of the players he brought in for Tuesday disappointed and he made further changes today. Five of them, including some of them who you have previously called 'Warneys Boys'. So I don't get your point at all.

Respect yours views. You've been today so they are valid. I just like to think progressive. When we meet a better side if we get in the play-offs.
"Towell & Palmer together in midfield" should work because they are both nice little footballers - unless you think in midfield size matters. OK - a good big un always beats a good little un. ( or is that fighting ? ). But Palmer should be looking to get his feet under the table and Towell wants a contract - so both highly motivated.
It's been said that we played football more today and these two would be the engine room.
Can't understand why young Taylor has been kept on a leash for so long and having Ball on the Bench the previous match MUST be a knock - surely. But I totally agree pushing Yates on to win the game or get a draw is strange - even having him on the bench seems unbalanced. Apparently he hit the post ? Now - shouldn't he have buried the chance or did he do well to get in a scoring position. I'll go he missed a sitter because that's my impression of him....league two if he's lucky - but he's a nice lad...lol. Crackers!

Any Doncaster or other fans who think we can't or don't play any good football should watch the Sky highlights of the Northampton game. The passing and moving for the third goal was as good as it gets. The move that ended with O'Donnell making a brilliant save from Towell was just as good. A pleasure to watch.
Realistically we probably need three more wins, maybe ten or eleven points. We have a tough run-in but all the same its looking good. Whoever finishes sixth will probably have one of the current top three to play in a play-off semi, so we need to keep it going. All good!
Taking current form into consideration, I reckon it's a fair bet that we'll play Plymouth in the first round of the playoffs. Finishing 4th would give us a home fixture in the 2nd leg - similar to last time against Preston. I'll go for Shrewsbury finishing 3rd and Peterborough 6th, leaving us with a Wembley final against our old mate Steve!
Although Michael Smith is obviously six foot plus and therefore a real threat in the air, from what I have seen he is more than useful on the deck and whilst not quick he is pretty mobile. His touch and finish for the first goal were text book (although how he was allowed that time and space I will never know) and his run and quick feet for the third goal were outstanding. When I think back to the games that we won when Moore was scoring, yes he got some with headers from set pieces but he scored plenty by finishing off slick passing moves or counter attacks.
We have some technically good players and (depending who is picked) pace in the side. That gives us options to break teams down or play on the counter attack as well as being direct when needed. It is that mix that makes us a threat. Three or four times we have clicked and some League One sides have been unable to live with us. At our worst we play slowly, too long too often and become predictable and easy to defend against.
I am struggling to remember us scoring a better team goal than the third against Northampton.
