Elise Christie

Has anyone else caught much of the Winter Olympics?

What a lot of high emotion and drama Ms Christie brings with her.  Tears, death threats, injuries, high profile social media stuff, carried off the track this morning.

On a human level I feel for her of course but she is a professional athlete.  In six Olympic events in a row now she has either crashed out or been disqualified.  I get that short track skating is crash bang wallop and that things can happen, but is it the case that she has just been unbelievably unlucky, or might it be the case that in the biggest of events (the Olympics) when it really matters her judgement under pressure is poor?

This might be one for you T71.  Is your short track skating knowledge up there with your National Hunt Racing expertise?  Has Elise got something, or should Team GB get rid?

Or perhaps nobody is bothered.

My boss(wife) and I were discussing exactly the same thoughts this morning Smiler, she too suggested that T71 might have a view. (She is an avid reader of Millers Banter, and has an opinion on all of you!nono)

Elise Christie may well be off the pace by the next Olympics, so she may drop out of the team naturally.

I hope that Mrs Unifier thinks reasonably well of most of the Banterers, although your shaking heads perhaps suggest otherwise.  It might be best if you say nothing further on that subject!

Mrs Smiler for one thinks that we (me firmly included) should all grow up.  She might have a point!

From what I have seen, and with the caveat that I know nothing about this sport, it looked like Elise Christie was forced into making bad decisions at times when she was struggling to keep up with the pace this time round, so I suspect you might be right. Four years is a long time in professional sport.

Elise Christie is exciting to watch. I like anything that's English & I class as want to see, this is certainly the case. Like to know what sports your wife is into. I've already stated my preferences.

On a quick point of order T71, Elise Christie is about as Scottish as can be.

She is certainly exciting to watch. Anything can happen with her in a race, and it usually does.

She's British then. When they lose they are Scottish. When they win they are British. That's how it usually goes.

You've just contradicted yourself T71, as Christie has indeed lost. Smiler, it would appear your wife and mine have been talking, as she holds very similar views.

Elise Christie is the JCH of the British Short Track Skating team. Lots of promise but no end product!
