I've criticised him in the past but yesterday he was our best player by a mile. He was up & down the right flank, defensively sound & made a goal saving tackle when Cody McDonald looked like he was through on goal, well played lad. __________________

Should have been signed permanently in January,as should Rodak. When they've made their name with Rotherham they'll be off somewhere else and the re-building will start again !! __________________

Rodak, Emmanuel, Towell - we don't know whether or not we did actually try to sign any or all of them on permanent deals. I heard a whisper that we did talk to at least one parent club of a loanee and ask the question during the window. But translating a loan deal into a permanent deal is not necessarily straightforward. Do they want to join or can they get a better deal somewhere else, perhaps in a higher division? Would paying the full wage instead of a proportion of the wage be within our reach and structure? Does the parent club want to sell, or might they think they might get a better player back in due course, or a player who would attract a higher fee?

Of the three, Emmanuel is the one who has come on leaps and bounds. Defensively he is big, strong and quick and positionally etc he has improved. The bonus is that he is an increasing threat going forwards. If we could get him permanently I would be all for it.

I think the problem is the club do not know where we will be next season (Champ or League 1) and therefore do not know what budget we will have. This needs to be known before offering anything to anyone that comes under the 'quite expensive to keep' category?
We have players ending contracts and loan players who are playing very well and in my opinion, could easily play at a higher level. I believe the only way we can keep/sign these players is by getting promoted and offering them a decent contract or, unfortunately, we will lose them. On the other hand, if we signed them now (if we could?) on a good whack, and did not get promoted............'Trouble at Mill'.

The club are between a rock and a hard place!

Spot on Archie and it's the conumdrum that clubs the size of Rotherham will always face. There's a risk involved in buying expensive players in pursuit of promotion. If promotion isn't achieved we're left with an unaffordable asset. Our three current starting loanees all fall into this category and I don't think that any move will be made to permanently acquire them until promotion is confirmed, unless the terms of them signing are unusually favourable to us.
