First half they were better and brighter than us but made very few clear chances. Our back four was very strong. We were fortunate to go in 1-0 up.
Second half we battered them more and more the longer it went on, and it could have been 3 or 4 in the end.
Full marks to Warne. He is shuffling the pack nicely to keep players fresh and is getting the most out of what he has at his disposal. Whoever comes on as subs, they are having an impact on the game.
To give credit to someone who has been getting a bit of stick lately, Jerry Yates was excellent when he came on. Play him as a target man and he will struggle. Play him as a second striker and he is more than useful. Unfortunately for Yates he will struggle to get picked ahead of Ball, but tonight alongside first Smith and then JCH he looked lively.
Quite right that Emmanuel was named MoM. He hardly put a foot wrong defensively and his rampaging forward runs in the second half were awesome. He has been steadily improving as the season has gone on and very much looks the part now. Forget Moore - perhaps Emmanuel is the Ipswich player we should have been trying to sign permanently?
Two or three good additions still needed if we can get the right ones in, but going very nicely.
This league is that bad it's for us to not get in the play-offs. Vaulks extend his contract. From day 1 he reminded me of Emlyne & Gerrard. He will go for a lora lora money if we do it right. JCH another one he's like a bull, keep him here. You don't let players go with scope he has.
Another excellent performance against a poor side who failed to trouble our keeper unduly. Good to see that Bradford 's Taylor hasn't changed one jot since he played with us. Great close control but his final shot/pass abysmal. There's a togetherness and confidence about this Rotherham side that is beginning to worry me. Without much effort at all, we could well be in the playoffs and heading for the Championship! A mixed blessing or a challenge that our excellent manager might well be up for this time around? Anyway, time to worry about that later. For now, well done to the players and the management on another great performance !!
totally agree about taylor who plays for bradford giving them the same performance as he did for us abysmal
So tony now we are in the mix are you going to splash the top 5 budget cash you said you had and get the players warnes wants to keep us and give us a chance in the playoff
attacking midfielder on a perm basis needed now
goalkeeper in the summer
a striker on loan and if he any good buy him dont let it go on and on
and a another right back as i dont think ipswich will sell emmanual
I thought we were chasing shadows a bit first half. We are desperate for a central midfielder. When Vaulks went down injured in the second half at 1-0 it was a worry - if he had gone off at that stage it would have meant playing Newell or perhaps Forde in there which might have changed the momentum of the game.
A couple of other quick observations. I thought we looked tired in the first half but as the game went on we seemed to get stronger and it was Bradford who ran out of steam. Great fitness levels from us. Last one - I thought the referee was very good. He let people tackle and didn't give soft free kicks when players went over too easily, and there were a couple of flashpoints which he managed sensibly by getting in there, telling people to behave and quickly getting the game under way again. Not too much fuss. Nicely handled.
Bradford were a better side than Portsmouth and in the first half they were more clinical than us in midfield particularly when Nick Law was involved. But their play in the final third was dire - probably down to the quality of our back four. Law tired noticeably in the 2nd half and we then dominated. Agree Smiler about the need for a good central midfielder. We have some good talent in that area but we could do with a bit more creativity to bring the best out of them all. After expecting the Ref to put in one of his usual poor performances, I was pleasantly surprised.
An excellent performance we wanted it more than them and vaulks and towell were outstanding. Credit to Barker and warne, they have us playing as a team at the moment.
First half I thought they had the better of mid-field, continually playing across us to feed their number 35 who caused problems down our right. On the balance of play, I thought we were a tad fortunate to go in at 1-0.
Second half was a different story, a combination of fitness and confidence was plainly obvious to see. A lot of good performances out there but for me, the highlight were the crosses and dead ball deliveries from both sides, quality balls into the danger area that could have easily returned another 2 or 3 goals.
I thought Jerry Yates did really well when he came on, keeping them pegged back in their own half by chasing everything down, similar thoughts on Taylor's contribution (Good to see him back).
