knocked out of the cup again at the first attempt again **** poor performance from everybody
the goalie can only be as good as his defense . apparently pollitt does no after the match performance assessment with the goalkeepers so how can they learn.
yes we are sixth and we have sometimes played fantastic attacking football. but defensively we are a shambles. If spend thrifty Stewart expect us to bounce back to the championship. then he must be watching through rose glinted glasses.
The team needs a defensive coach and the defense needs an overhaul come January.
Tony who kept harking on about a top 5 budget well come January you will need to get that cheque book out and be prepared to put it to use because if tony wants a top 5 finish then we will need
a left back as i don't think mattock or purrington are any good
right back ***mings is far better than emmanuel so get another right back and mick can have him back
we need a new midfield engine to replace frecklington towell maybe newall is best on the wing when he is on his game
we need a perm striker with moore going back and proctor injured jch and yates are not cutting the mustard when given their chance
and if we play ball then we need to change the playing style
question is do we think the money will be spent in January
ITS A NO FROM ME

I don't think we know who our best team is and apart from Moore every position is open on the sheet. Every time Taylor seems to be doing ok he throws him out for Forde. He constantly looks to put Newell through the middle but it's clearly not his place unless we are coasting against a collapsed opposition. Towell and Potter and Vaulks should be our engine room with Newell and Taylor the wings. Ajayi isn't going to improve if he gets dropped every time he makes a mistake and we could put anyone in the net as our keepers are sub par. If we play one up front it has to be to bring in runners who are bombing on and not 1980s hoof ball to the big guy and hope he does something with it. We are moving more and more to long ball tactics and aren't working on a plan B for January. We also have done nothing since losing our main striker Proctor (Moore was sub remember) and will soon be left with JCH who can't be arsed, Yates who isn't good enough and Ball who isn't clicking with our style. As for the money there isn't any we all know that and as usual the same press notices will be released - shortlist of players, looking at 3 hot prospects, talking to 2 serious contenders, negotiating with our main targets parent... window closes.
I don't think we should get too angry too soon. I was seriously worried before the season started that we might be struggling towards the bottom of the league and would have snatched anyones hand off to be sixth at this stage.
Yet again though TS has raised expectations with his pre-season talk (last season 'mid table looking up', this season 'top five budget') so people are justified then in being critical when we fall short.
The biggest disappointment for me so far is David Ball. He is a very good footballer but isn't an out and out striker. He is being played as a second striker off a target man and being asked to feed off knock downs and flick ons. Not his game. He needs the ball to feet in those little pockets of space on the half turn. I've seen people say ;he isn't a Rotherham type player'. What does that mean? A good player is a good player.
My biggest problem with the season so far is that we have gone from playing a lot of good football moving the ball quickly and lots of player movement to being quite predictable and playing too long too soon to Moore. That doesn't suit the midfield players we have.
But then unless they are playing to orders to knock it long, it is up to those players to get on the ball, move , and make things happen.
We have also chopped and changed the team too much, particularly the back five. Defences work best when they are settled. I know that injuries kick in and so on but Warne has shuffled the pack by choice a bit too often for my liking.
We also still have too many players on the books who simply aren't good enough. But with the transfer windows I think a manager needs two or three of them to make a real difference.
The biggest plus has been the form of Moore, who has stepped up following the injury to Proctor who I am sure was intended to be Warne's main man. Unfortunately he isnt ours, so that is a bit of a double-edged sword.
A lot of work still to do but Warne has definitely earned the chance to have a go at it. As long as we don't flirt with the bottom four he deserves time to build something for nest season and beyond. And I say that as someone who wasn't in favour of getting the job to start with.
I don't think we'll flirt with either end as gaps start widening. I'm of the thinking though that very little significant business will be done in January. As everyone knows that is panic window, for those trying to get away from the bottom, and those 'investing' to go up. We will be neither and as also we all know - transfer fees / wages / agents fees all get inflated during this time - it's just market forces.
I am concerned that Moore will go back and we'll be left in the brown stuff. I can't believe that strikers are that hard to find. Our defence as a unit whoever that entails is indeed poor even for this league, that includes the GK dept. Compare it with Skarz, Morgan, Arnason, Tavernier - and you know how far away we are. In fact had we signed Tavernier & Dickho I firmly believe right now we'd be an established Champ outfit and we would be adding those seats into NYS.
But I digress, Warney and co. have a lot to sort out, and we know this isn't going to be a season project - more likely 3-5, so I don't know what qualifies as success on a 1 year rolling contract?
