Have a Little Patience

The team have become victims of their own success at NYS.  Against Oldham there were mutterings from the crowd throughout the game, until we finally broke Oldham in the last quarter of the game.  Warne has very diplomatically praised the crowd for getting behind the players, but I will bet all money that they feel the tension if things aren't going right straight away and to be honest I bet it bugs the life out of them.  IN fact I know it does.

With Trevor Kettle in charge tomorrow and with a bottom four side coming to town, I can imagine frustration rising by half time tomorrow if we aren't in front by half time.

A few things to remember.  We aren't going to score four or five every home game.  Sometimes things won't go our way despite best efforts.  We aren't going to win every home game.  Sometimes the players will try stuff that doesn't come off, but they mustn't be afraid to keep trying things as long as it is in the right areas.  A game lasts ninety minutes.  Sometimes if teams are well organised it takes time to wear them down.  The more support the players get, the more likely it is that we will all get the result we want.

After a difficult period, we have a manager and team at the minute who are at least trying to do the right things, so lets get behind them instead of being impatient with them.

Good points Smiler. One of the reasons that we overcome sides late in the game at NYS is that the squad are very fit - that was very noticeable against Oldham. I take your point about not scoring 4 or 5 every home game - tomorrow I'm hoping for 6!

We certainly have now Brad, and I didn't think Kettle was too bad. His mannerisms probably don't help him and his reputation means that the crowd is really quick to jump on him when he makes a 50/50 call either way.

Patience certainly was a virtue yesterday. Our goal was always going to come but it didn't come easily. The crowd stayed with the team and it we got the same 3 points that you get for winning 5-0. Who knows what would have happened if they had scored first? They had the chances to do so. Would the crowd have stayed with the team, and have we got what it takes to get a comeback win or even comeback point? Don't know yet.

I thought yesterday's game was great entertainment. If the final score had been 8-3 I wouldn't have been surprised. The fact that we can create so many chances is very encouraging. Some of the chances should have been converted though - JCH and Vaulx being most guilty. When JCH was put clear I'm sure Frecks was catching him up even though he'd already played 80 minutes. He really doesn't look fit to me and seemed to rely on brute strength to get past defenders. A worry! I was impressed with Rodak but I'm not comfortable with punching the ball constantly. He did catch the ball on a couple of occasions and I think he should have done the same later on to defuse the pressure we were under. Good anticipation though and one cracking save down low to his right. Thought Towell was top class. Some people don't appreciate him but he's one of those players who puts lots of effort in off the ball and it is not always recognised. ***mings has to start every game if he's fit.

Next week against Rochdale is going to be another stiff away test - they're on a good run at the moment. I'd be happy for Warne to play as if we were at home and try to blow them away. If it doesn't come off, no problem. We need to play to our strongest suit and being conservative is not going to get the best out of the team.

Onwards and upwards.

Agree with all of that 100% Glenn. Every word of it. Particularly the point about Towell. Exactly the box to box midfielder we were crying out for - a clever player, full of running, quite pacy, and puts a foot in. I'd never heard of him when we signed him, but he has been a revelation.

Given a run of games I am sure JCH would be match sharp, but I think he is a player who needs regular football and he isn't going to get it with us, at least not while we have Moore. I think we would have been better served loaning him out (with a recall option) to somewhere he would be playing every week, for our benefit and his. Other clubs use us to get their players up to speed - why don't we do the same? Whether he is actually good enough is a different question. The jury is out for me on that. For me he is in last chance saloon. In fairness he needs the chance to show it one way or the other. If he is just going to be a ten minute sub every third game all season, it isn't going to do him or us any good.
