MoM by a country mile. Towell looks very useful and Moore 's first was sublime. Taylor back to his old antics but nice cross for the second. Potter is coolness personified and I'd like to comment on the new keeper's ability but he had absolutely nothing to do apart from pick the ball out of the net twice. Happy with 3 points but a bit mystified as to how they scored 2 goals? Onwards and upwards!

I agree the lad was awesome today but a bit of praise also for Richard Wood, the beginnings of a good partnership. Until he was subbed I thought Williams deserved MOM, he had a great game. We should have scored 10 TBH & it was nice to get back to the Southend level of performance. Happy days!!!

Ihiekwe was terrific. He won his headers, has a real turn of pace and is composed on the ball.

I also agree that Towell looked a good player even before his goal, and what a strike that was to win it.

We murdered Bury. 3-2 really flattered them. It was a really enjoyable game today, and great to see smiles back on faces. Also good to see the attendances holding up pretty well considering the paltry away followings the three league visitors have brought with them.

Agree Wood has added some stability and organisation to the back line. However, he was at fault for the second goal - didn't get off the ground for the initial header but then 2 Rotherham players stood and watched as Cameron reached the ball for a free header. Keeper had no chance with either goal - the first was just an immaculate cross which dipped between ***mings and Iheikwe, landing perfectly on Beckford's head. Williams is a gem and has the ability to open up defences easily. I do get the feeling he's a bit fragile and I think Warne had this and the Walsall game in mind when he subbed him. Personally, I would have taken off Taylor and given Newell half an hour - it was the sort of game which might have suited his skills.

Not getting carried away but I reckon there's real potential in this squad. Some of the midfield interplay was first class but I got a bit frustrated with some of the impatient route one long balls which were ineffective and unnecessary as we had the ability to beat them on the ground. I do think Warne is adjusting well to management. His signings, team selections and tactics show that he's beginning to get to grips with the task. He's an intelligent bloke with a good footballing background and there's no reason whatsoever why he can't be a success.

Onwards and upwards!

We still shipped two goals to a dreadful side who had about 2 chances - opportunity to conversion rate versus us is shocking. Moore was MoM for me, worked his socks off. I'm still on the fence with Taylor - he wastes so many free kicks and crossing chances.

Get Bailey-King on the right. Bray on the left. Wingers. Williams is fragile but best of the rest. Taylor for his effort yes. Forde & Newell no.

Bailey-King has made a couple of cameo appearances for the first team in meaningless games and has looked like he has some pace but is very, very raw.  Pre-season friendlies didn't give the impression he was ready for first team action.  Probably one to loan out.   Likewise Bray hasn't done enough yet to suggest that he is ready to start games.  Williams was excellent yesterday.  Taylor isn't my favourite but he has picked up his game recently.  Personally I would go with Williams and Newell in the wide positions.  Newell gives us natural balance on the left although he does need to put in more consistent performances.

the defence need sorting may be defending coach

on tuesday

in regards taylor he could play him as a striker off moore cos with the knock downs he has the pacer to latch onto them and play with newell or bray on the left

with williams on the right and frecks/towell potter in the middle
vaulks as right back with ***mings

keep da ball on the bench as cover
