WHAT'S WRONG WITH EVERYONE

After another 80 miles trip to watch a great cup tie against a very competent Lincoln outfit, I get home to read the MB comments on the game to find only 2 posts!! Surely people must have seen some positives tonight worth commenting on - or did no-one go? For what it's worth, every Millers player did us proud tonight. O'Donnell had another 'moment' for their goal but he pulled off two remarkable saves. Warne learned from the weekend and put out our best midfield - Potter, Frecks, Newell and Wiiliams. All had great games as did the two big boys up front - Moore and Procter. The back 4 was solid with both full backs contributing well in attack. The current OPs on the MB home page make for depressing reading. The club stood up to the plate tonight and delivered. It's a shame that only poor performances seem attract comment!

Some people seem to take more pleasure from failure than from success in a sadistic kind of way, it's definitely the way of the World, especially in Footballing terms.

I myself thoroughly enjoyed that game last night.

Was never going to be easy considering Lincoln's success in the Conference last season and of course their FA Cup exploits.

Plus the atrocious weather threatened to make a mockery of the game, but as always the excellent NYS playing surface and drainage system stepped up to the plate and enabled us to enjoy a damn good night's Football.

Lincoln's equaliser aside......Brian Wilsterman would've taken somebodies head off on the back row of the East stand in that situation........i thought it was a good all round team performance and totally worthy of our place in the hat/bag/box, whatever they draw the balls out of these days, for the next round.

Lincoln played their part too, giving us a good end to end game and forced Richard O'Donnell into making 2 or 3 excellent near post saves.

Nice headache for Warney over the next couple of days as to which, if any, changes will be made for the Southend game, but after the huge disappointment of the Fleetwood game, it's great to get the momentum back and give us plenty of optimism for Saturday's match.

Ajayi got a bit of stick for the goal but O'Donnell was facing it all and should have commanded it. He hasn't had a convincing start to the season but I think he will come good.

We didn't exactly dominate against a League 2 side but they are a decent side who have the winning habit that we haven't had for three years. So to win was terrific. To win after being pegged back by a soft goal was also important because in previous games we would have responded to the equaliser by letting one or two more in in quick time, so that is encouraging. Other positives - the front two linked well, we managed possession a lot better and looked like a well balanced side. We also lasted the pace physically in what was a pretty high tempo game.

So - some work still to do but some positives to build on.

I would start with the same eleven on Saturday.

Excellent game thoroughly enjoyed it, a good old style cup tie. Miles better performance than Fleetwood. Some sublime football from us at times which augurs well for the season ahead. Lincoln played their part in an excellent game and credit is due to their fans who turned out in numbers to support their team. We must remember we are a relatively new team this season and to a certain extent are still a work in progress but on last night's evidence the early signs are good. Most of us had forgotten what that winning feeling was like. I always have a pint after the game but this time it was nice to be celebrating rather than drowning my sorrows.

Glenn/Zippy, as one of the self confessed glass half empty brigade, I don't think its because theres nothing to moan about for the quiet forum, but rather that its a case of the team doing what is expected of them; Put a shift in, entertain us, score some goals and win, a rare event.

I enjoyed the game but expected the worse when our boys switched off and lost concentration after the break in play for the substitutions and were punished. I expected the worse, like Smiler, I expected the goal rush, but it never came, what a relief.

My first game, and I went home happy, didn't do my ticker much good and more work needed, but a massive improvement. Heres hoping we can build on that and puts some points on the board where it really matters. A win is a win

Calypso - I trust the work that is needed concerns RUFC as opposed to your ticker!

Regarding the forum - have a look at the number of new topics following the Fleetwood game as opposed to last night's victory. Call me a cynic but it would seem that the forum is largely in negative mode and is happier complaining as opposed to reflecting on a good performance.

My glass is half full and from what I've seen so far, I reckon there's lots to get excited about down NYS!

Glenn,

Cant comment as wasnt there,

But i can say i am pleased with the result and glad Williams/Newell were picked from the start.

Looking forward to Saturday - another 260 mile round trip pilgrimage, i am hoping that the motorway is kind to me - not like against Fleetwood.

UTM - Early days mind - some early signs of better things to come.

Could be mid table by 5pm instead of bottom.

Despite it being an atrocious evening with the rain threatening to turn any attempt at playing a cup tie into something resembling a water polo match, two teams gave their all and provided a good crowd with a full on 90 minutes of entertainment. There wasn't much between the two teams, but I did feel that we deserved the win and had the better players.

Big plus on the night was the back four who refused to buckle under pressure as the visitors mounted attack after attack just after the interval.Last season, we'd surely have folded. Up front we had Proctor and Moore, both doing well and proving a real handful. So much so that their two centre backs rarely ventured beyond the half way line. Proctor was named sponsors man of the match, although I'd have given it to Moore, who's nimble skilful touches were a joy to behold given his size. Our two centre backs, in particular Ihiekwe, were superb all evening and offered pace and a steadiness which belied their years. Frecklington was back to his very best and ably assisted by Potter, Williams and Newell. O'Donnell produced some good saves on a wet greasy surface which might have caused him far more problems.

Only blip on a great night was their goal, which came from one of those calamitous errors which have seemed to haunt us for the past few seasons. With Fisher gone, that clanger of a defensive mistake fell to poor old Ajayi, who could and should have cleared it, although O'Donnell might have done better too.

Last season, we might have capitulated to the brief attacking onslaught which followed, but this time with the new additions, we steadied and scored again.

A win then and a passage to the next round. Cup ties are all about winning, so much more important than the performance. However, last night we managed to get both.

Lincoln are a good side that will surely finish nearer the top than the bottom of their league and I wish them well.

For us, this win ought to have given us a much needed confidence booster to take to Saturday's game with Southend.

Paul Warne has some selection headaches after was what a rousing display which ought to warrant choosing the same team. We shall see.

Can't comment too much as only seen highlights. Errors are bound to happen, but what is not helping is at points in a game which seem to alter its direction. The 1st goal at Fleetwood, last night's equaliser thankfully we managed to rectify. Mistakes while 3-0 up etc become more of a personal matter for the player to address, when they happen at times they are it becomes a team problem and the staff really need to address this. Steve Evans made it moot by creating teams where you always felt there was a goal in us, right up until the 95th minute, if you've got goals in you then it makes it a damn site easier. For the last 2 seasons, opposition score first - that's us finished - I'm hoping dropping a league that stops

Was there. Newell stood out skill wise. Not overly fussed with Williams. Forde will have to play on the right. More solid than Williams or Taylor. Proctor & Moore link well. Midfield needs fresh legs. Can't see Potter & Frecks playing every game.

Didn't go but it seems we played better although it was a lower league team but they have the confidence from.promotion and they showed it. Warne should stick with Williams and Newell on wing But i think Taylor will start on Saturday grrrrrr.. Southend will.come.out guns blazing with a point to prove after losing Tuesday. As they played with the nearly the same team that beat Blackburn

on some social media it is moan moan jeez
onward looking like there is some real competition for places, good to get a win can only do the lads good, got us a goal scorer ?
more competition up front needed, if JCH Thunderbolt had gone in it would have done him some good, cant see Jerry playing much this year, Taylor runs his heart out for the club i can see him playing less and less though, Moore up front can give us a out option laying it back into midfield, i'd like to see Purrington a bit more, if we get something from Southend and Peterborough
some will still moan,

Yeah, what's wrong with everyone? Do some supporters only come out to play when The Millers lose?

There are just over 500 registered user names on this board. They are either all on holiday or there are a handful of multis who have just

given up and run out of thought provoking ideas to discuss/debate.

Grumble over.

UTM!

PS. Hope you can all make the next home game. If, not continue to have a good holiday.

Just got back from a couple of weeks away.

The season so far really is that we have had three meaningful games and lost two of them. Trying to put a positive spin on it, we murdered a decent Southend side and lost narrowly to two sides likely to be near the top. If I wanted to be negative, perhaps the Southend game was misleading as their back four played like they had never met each other , we still can't buy a win or even a draw away from home, and a point a game is relegation form.

It depends whether you think your glass is half full or half empty doesn't it?

Encouraging signs smiler, but work in progress for sure. One or two doubts still remaining, not least the way in which we conceded a second goal within a couple of minutes after the penalty at Huddersfield which was reminiscent of last year.

Having said that they did play well and there was encouraging signs considering the team was not the usual first 11; and its fair to say we were beaten by the ref as much as Huddersfield's superiority.

I will leave the JCH situation for others to debate.

Just got back from Lidl. Bargains galore. Not a great Lidl fan.

Other supermarket brands are available.

On the football front we will finish in bottom half of table.

I am experiencing ennui. Same old pseudo banter on this board.

Where's ian by the way? More to the point where's ridgeway kid?

Need time to gel - I think we'll have a strong 2nd half of the season, just depends what happens in the meantime whether we get somewhere? (and if we can keep the 2 Ipswich lads)

Still not convinced mind we've got enough bite in midfield, we're pretty good for this level with the ball, but without it no real steel and not a leader. Frecks has always led by example, I think we need more than that in this league. O'Donnell is average at best, he's got very slow reactionary's for a goalkeeper who trains everyday and his inadequacies have played a part in too high a percentage of the goals we've conceded up to now - that is concerning - as is the error rate of some of our players which end up leading to goals conceded.

Still remaining positive though as there is a definite improvement when we do have the ball that's for sure.

I've missed a few games this season (Lincoln / Southend / Posh) due to holidays however, I like what I have read and seen on the official site. I think we have a squad to give anyone in this league a run for their money.

Normal service resumed Saturday, back at the NYS to hopefully see this team in full flow!!

For those who haven't managed to see the team this season due to holidays, tomorrow will hopefully be a pleasant surprise after last year's debacle. We have a side which is a major attacking threat with two big goalscorers in Moore and Procter, supplied by very skillful wide midfielders Williams and Newell. All these four have great skill on the ball and will cause most defences in this league significant problems. Frecklington and Potter are both creative midfielders who can break up attacks and turn defence into attack swiftly. Both full backs are solid although I wish Mattock would be more positive in trying to block crosses. Both join the attack freely and add to our potency. The two CBs are young and agile and in the main play a very controlled game. The hiccups widely reported after Lincoln and Peterborough stem from a lack of understanding/confidence between Ajayi and the keeper. I disagree about O'Donnell's reactions. He has made several fabulous reaction saves this season already. His problem is his uncertainty about when to come off his line and he is weak when low shots come in close to his body. I can't see anyone off the bench challenging for a starting place tomorrow although I would like to see Purrington given a chance and Bray is receiving some good press.

As for Paul Warne, he has done a sensational job putting together a squad which he envisaged would be able to mount a challenge in this League. He has shown that he is way more capable than his apparent illustrious predecessors and I'm confident he will shore up the squad even further before the transfer window closes. Don't forget, this is largely a new team and it will take time for them to reach their true potential. However, if the displays to date are anything to go by, there are great things to come this season.

My glass isn't as full as yours Glenn.

Unfortunately for Ajayi in between lots of good defending he has a calamitous error in him that is costing us a goal every other game. You have to expect the odd error from a young centre back but he is making too many. He needs to cut them out otherwise he will make himself hard to pick.

Although we have turned some players over, we haven't had the major surgery that was needed to overhaul a squad that was on its knees. 11 of the 17 at Peterborough were here last season. Quite why some of them still are is a mystery to me. The additions don't have any great pedigree to suggest they are players that can get us near the top of League One.

I applaud the attacking intent that we are showing, but at this early stage if I had to bet I would agree with Wotsisname that at the minute we look like a lower half of the table.

I think it is a big stretch to describe Warne's work to date as 'sensational'. We are out of one cup, lost on penalties in another, and (bearing in mind that the league is all that really matters) more importantly have lost two out of three league games. It is too early to judge him. Lose tomorrow and it won't be looking too good. Win and we will be top half. In short, it is still very early days.

Ridgeway Kid may well be in his Bunker following the election of Trump although he disappeared before that disastrous event came to pasdsd. Perhaps he saw it coming. His acerbic contribution to the o/t side of the board (whether or not he was someone masquerading as someone else or not) has been missed.
