Rotherham United maintained their 100% start to pre-season after a 2-0 victory over Soproni VSE at Lindabrunn Sportschule.
Goals from Jamie Proctor and David Ball secured the win as the Millers brought the curtain down on their tour of Austria with two victories out of two.
In a much sterner test to the one the Millers faced on Tuesday night, Paul Warne’s side pressed on despite a tough week of pre-season training to record another impressive victory over the Hungarian outfit.
I remember watching us beat York 4-0 with a Steve Spooner hat-trick pre-season many years ago and thinking we were in for promotion only for us to go down. And I thought we looked good against Sunderland this time last year. The point is that pre-season friendlies are a useful exercise but no guide at all to how we might do once the season starts. Or I am a poor judge. Or both. I still think we are short of a goalscorer and hope that what is left of the Ward money (after Huddersfield and Dexter are paid off and any funding gap is plugged) if anything might go in that direction. I also think that too many poor performers from last season are still with us, particularly in wide areas. But time will tell. Looking forward to the real action starting.
I'm sure you are correct, smiler. Pre-season form has no real bearing on the actual league performances to follow. I won't be going to any pre-season friendlies. I'm waiting for the real season to begin. Then we'll see how realistic our chances are of staying in League 1.
Always liked pre-season friendlies, usually nice weather, no pressure to get a result and easy to park.
Alfreton for me tonight as its closer to home.
I know a good pre-season does not necessarily dictate how the year will go but, from what I have read and seen so far, I cannot see how it could have gone any better and I am starting to get a tad optimistic.
yep i agree i aint paying season tickets holders should get to see at least one of the home friendlies for free probably get more there then as well
I agree home friendlies should be free for STH's.
I also think its good to support the lower league teams as well. Parkgate had over 1400 turn up against the Millers at £6 a head, that's £8400 which will probably keep them going for months.
