I've a feeling the Cons are not going to get anywhere near the majority they wanted, if anything it will be worse?

The backdrop of the terror incidents is just bringing to light to ordinary folk the cuts the Police have had to endure - and this is the effect, probably making the Cons position worse

The big question is, what does a small majority for Labour or Cons do for Brexit? - talk about a right mess

It is a real mess.

The decision to call a snap election was unnecessary and a cynical ploy, and I agree with you that it may backfire in the sense that we might get a result that is less than clear cut one way or the other, which is not really ideal whatever your own preferences are.

I think with the same policies and a more charismatic leader Labour would have won this election. My fear for Labour is that if they do 'ok' it might encourage Corbyn to battle on. As it is, the Tories will probably win and with a similar majority to the one they have now, maybe slightly increased but not by much. They have run a shocking campaign based simply on the mantra that 'everything is fine with us' when the evidence all around us in the form of depleted public services and hard working people in food banks and so on tells us otherwise. Their sole tactic has been to try and avoid own goals - something they haven't quite managed. It is a sad state of affairs when such an inept government can run such a poor campaign mid-term and still win.

I am fed up of hearing that we need more austerity. The weakest in society are being savaged by the impact of cuts and more cuts. Austerity is and always was the very definition of false economy and has simply been used as a convenient excuse to drive forward a brutal right wing agenda. The middle classes are starting to feel and see the injustice and severity of the cuts now, but not in sufficient numbers or in time to make a real difference on Thursday.

All in all, a lot of time wasted, a lot of money down the toilet, and nobody any further on.

We are about to convene discussions between the main parties in NI to try and get Stormont functioning again. How can the government be an honest broker when it is beholdent to one side in the discussions? Disgraceful. Either a shocking lack of recognition of a clear conflict of interest or a shameful willingness to ignore it in order to prop up a government that is floundering after May's selfish gamble with the country's best interests backfired. And we all know (and more importantly the EC knows) that the person going in to bat for us in the crucial Brexit talks now has no mandate and is a dead woman walking. I don't think there has been such a clear dereliction of prime ministerial duty in British politics since Chamberlain stepped onto the airport tarmac waving his piece of paper.

The Nationalist parties in Ulster aren't too thrilled about the DUP getting into bed with the Tories. Who can blame them? How would any man feel about going into marriage guidance counselling and finding that the counsellor was sleeping with his wife?

Mayday Mayday... also being rescued by a backwards party whose stance on issues like abortion and gay marriage belong in the 19th century, not the 21st. It's a slap in the face for Davison who was the only Tory winner last week.

The electoral system of ours needs updating into a system where every vote counts. I live in a staunch conservative area and anyone voting otherwise is, in effect wasting their vote. For example, in 2015 the SNP drew approx 1.5 million votes and got 56 seats, whereas UKIP got 4.6 million votes which equated to only 1 seat. ?????

Irrespective of whether we agree with any of those political parties the fact remains that there is a vast majority who are disenfranchised by our system.

Yes I know the arguments against a proportional representation system but many voters remain unrepresented. And I also remember we had a half hearted attempt at a referendum on the issue some years ago, but the issue was nailed on from the start otherwise a referendum wouldn't have been called. It was a very close run thing though.

But with the present system the consequence is we end up with a ridiculous joke of a government that can't really be taken seriously at international level and cause uncertainty. And lets not forget the 2010 election was only resolved when the Lib Dems got into bed with the Tories so we had a coalition then, much to their disgrace, Two coalitions in three elections? Things really must change
