What to make of his signing now he is out of contract and suffered a career defining injury 3/4 of the way through?

Any judgement will be unfair given his relatively young age and of course the injury.

Still, he proved unable to make the step up, or else the club failed to bring him on in the game...and then the injury. A stark reminder for a club with limited resources.

But back to the future...

Indeed , his performance before the injury was fairly poor to average. He cant control a ball and he hasnt shown a remarkable gift for awareness either. His much celebrated physique seems to have hardly mattered on the field but may have landed him a job in swim wear.

Should we attempt to resign him?

Honestly, Id have to say no.

I like him but agree he never performed at this level. He did well in L1 at Oldham and on loan at MKD so maybe he could do a job next year - hardly 'the Beast' though.

I don't see the point in playing him to be honest... my logic being if he plays well other clubs will come in for him, which probably means he'll go, or he will be able to negotiate a decent deal with us which is taking a risk just now when we don't know what he's going to play like (I can think of loads of players who never play decent again after a bad injury) .

I'd not play him in first team this season, but just in reserve games and assess him there, offer him a one year pay as you play deal, and if he didn't want it, so be it.. I think Warne will play him though because he seems gung-ho and isn't thinking he will be manager next season anyway... coments like "We have to score more than two because we will concede" is simply not managerial talk in my opinion, certainly something you would not say either to the players or in public....

I wouldn’t be bothered about keeping ANY of our current squad if I'm honest. Too many sick notes and simply poor quality.

..and players like Frecks, who I think is out of contract too, I'd only offer pay per play deals (or a very basic deal with extra when they play). I love him don't get me wrong but in any business you can't keep someone who can only turn up for work a few days a year, it's madness.

In my opinion though, I don't think those behind the scenes at the club just now have any clue as to how to negotiate anything...

New Season, needs a new manager, and 15 new players.... start looking at decent Sunday league / non- league players and it can't be worse than what we have now, it really can’t. More seriously, look to get in defenders from teams in lower leagues who are not conceding many goals and keeping clean sheets, that's where I'd start.. We need a team that can defend, defend in any way at all... at the moment ANY team at ANY level would beat us. There are NO PLAYERS WHATSOEVER in our current defence worth keeping.
