Its a fair comparison but no one is going to offer that, and if we dont have an extension on his contract then we arent going to get it because no one is that desperate

It seems pretty clear that we do have an option to trigger a one year extension. All the same, we won't get and he isn't worth anywhere near £5m, but it is good to see us talking the price up for a change instead of giving assets away as we have done through our history.

10 Goals for a club bottom of the league by a Country mile is some achievement and, £5 Mill is nothing to some of these clubs. I think Danny has done incredibly well and will only do better in the coming years. I hope we get "the going rate" for a forward who scores goals in the 5th highest league in Europe.
Another hope is that Jerry kicks on, I thought he did fantastic on Saturday and scoring in the Championship at his age is a major achievement. I'm sure the club will protect their asset and sign him on a decent contract (hopefully?). Who knows, we may have a £7-10 Mill striker on our hands by the end of the season?

The years extension is a great asset .

I feel it definitely puts his price up to around the 3-4 million price tag-but his contribution to our L1 campaign could be worth much more.

Dont sell him-he will get over it and offer him more next year to sign an extension.

what exactly is the situation with the one year extension does anybody know, i.e. is Danny forced to take it if offered or could he turn us down anyway?

This for me has a massive impact on our stance now, because if he is forced to accept a one year extension I can understand us holding out for a good bid now, but if there is any chance he has an option to go, and all it really amounts to is us having the ability to negotiate a new one year (or more) deal the only benefit is that we could demand a fee whilst we are negotiating a new deal - it would be madness not to sell him now...

Everything I have seen and heard suggests that the club has an option to trigger a one year contract extension.

I agree with you that the real value in that is not that we can elect to keep Ward, but that we can use it to get a proper fee for him instead of having to cash in for peanuts like Barnsley had to with Winnall.

The idea that we might extend the contract and keep him for another year is fantasy as far as I am concerned.  The clubs who are reportedly interested are accustomed to paying £20K plus a week in wages.  What makes anyone think that we are going to be able (never mind prepared) to try and match that even if by some miracle we stay up?  And if we hold him to his current contract terms and deny him a move where he can triple or quadruple his wages would that be fair to him, and wouldn't we just have a very, very disgruntled player on our hands?

At the end of the day money talks.  Not taking anything away from him but he is a player who has had injury problems and who has had a good half of one season after a few years of inconsistency.  If someone is willing to pay a big fee, we should take the money and let him have his move (good luck to him) and move on.

I had another thought... which was that we are holding back selling him until we've signed our new players so that agents don't inflate the prices/deals of the players we are signing when they see we have £2M in our coffers... Then I laughed out loud at the very stupidity of thinking we would be so clever... ..
