O/T What's the purpose?

This is the story of a young man who grows up and finds he can intimidate and bully people which comes in useful as he also sells illegal drugs. He belongs to a large gang of  similar minded people who also profit from pushing drugs, who threaten, intimidate, extort money from people. These individuals spend their "leisure" time playing computer games, smoking weed and looking at po rn ography.

Eventually after a being caught by the police the aforementioned young man finds himself locked up  in jail.

He then proceeds to live do the following in jail:  he bullies and intimidates others, he sells drugs and belongs to a gang of like minded individuals who threaten and bully others. In his spare time he smokes weed, plays computer games and watches p orn   ography.

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of this is? Has any punishment or rehabilitation  actually taken place?

Jail is denial of liberty - so under current laws yes it has. Does seem ripe for review and I'd personally make them work and work hard. Prison for a hardened crim is not really a deterrent even though they are locked up.

Maybe we should say that unless there is a realistic chance of rehabilitation then they should not be let out. goes against the grain for a liberal would have to give it further thought. :)

 Very good that.

I may steal it when I'm up against it on Facebook

I've heard enough stories about being locked up and it's impact to know it's pretty awful.

However , as pointed out the harder individual does not really suffer anywhere near like they should.

It's a paradox we see everywhere -only those that can feel remorse are destroyed by a criminal sentence. Very few I would imagine come out feeling more robust about engaging with life
