There is only type of candidate for the manager's job

We will not attract an experienced manager this season. Even if we pay over the odds, the demoralising impact of a protracted relegation could demoralise a manager with a proven track record. Nor will we tempt an up and coming manager like Alexander at S****horpe. Why would he jump on to a club that is sinking when his own star is on the rise?

Nor should we appoint a club legend like Warne. We should, as a club, pay them the respect they deserve and not throw them to the lions by watching them struggle with a poor side, thus dismantling their status with the fans.

That leaves just one category of manager: the desperate. Those who are in the last chance saloon. Those whose management credentials have been tarnished by poor behaviour , ill-discipline or irrational decision making. This I believe is the only category left open to us and if we embrace this fact we should pick someone who despite their flaws, has some success or demonstrated the odd flash of brilliance. The advantage of making a selection from this bunch is that RUFC can dictate terms. If these managers are desperate we can offer a deal on a month long rolling contract. That is why I believe we should offer Paolo Di Canio the role on a monthly rolling contract.  I also believe Di Canio would accept these terms.

What have we got to lose?
