What a shame Richard Wood scored today because...

many on here will be fooled by it and the Terry Butcheresque celebration and crude fist clenching etc

The truth is that the more intelligent supporter will not be fooled by this and his goal covers a multitude of sins.

He might be okay when the facing the ball and winning long punts in the air, but when quick players come down the flanks and pacey centre forwards are running on to the ball, then Wood is a liability. He simply can't keep pace with an oncoming forward.

Still the clenched fist and the never say die attitude will keep us up, won't it........?

We all know Wood has got his limitations, but I don't think a Terry Butcher at his peak would fare much better with the likes of Fry, Ball and Vaulks around him.

Fry needs to be replaced with either Ball or Belaid with us reverting to a 4-1-3-2 formation. Halford sat in front of the defence with any 3 of Frecks, Newell, Taylor, Vaulks, Forde, Allen (anyone else??) as the 3. Ward and Odemwingie up front.

woods would do well in a otherwise functional side.

Ball should never have started and should have been subbed after 10 minutes-it is that obvious.

we are so limited and are simply picking the fallen rotten fruit of 2 years of bad football stewardship.

The players we have allowed to go are in many ways far better than the ones we have replaced them with during our "football revolution".

It wasnt enough of a lesson with REDFERN AND then WARNOCK, we then brought in stubbs...the recruitment has been awful and the decimation of the team destroyed our identity. Thats relegation.

The fact that Wood got man of the match must have been purely down to the fact that he scored. Not having a go at him because he is certainly wholehearted but he does have his limitations, and anyone who watches the replay of Preston's first two goals will see that he was disappointed with himself as the marking for both left a lot to be desired. He wasn't the worst player out there though. Blackstock was a crushing disappointment. Ball had a nightmare to the point where if he had asked to be taken off I would have understood. Fisher didn't have a clue how to handle the winger Cunningham. I don't remember Taylor having a kick other than the chance he blazed over just before half time. I know he might be shell-shocked but Camp still doesn't fill me or by the look of it his defenders with confidence.

If Jackett wasn't in his honeymoon period he would be getting slaughtered for changing to one up front when 2-0 down at half time at home. Not that it was the wrong thing to do. He went to the same formation that Warnock used so successfully, with Halford strolling around in front of the bac two (see how easily Johnson went past him for the third goal) and two wide men trying to join Danny Ward when they could.

Second half we at least looked a bit livelier. Although he didn't score I thought Danny Ward again was the standout player. He won headers, chased lost causes including his own flick ons at times and generally linked up play well. Odemwingie looked like he had quality on the ball.

In my humble opinion if we play like we did first half, with a rigid 442 and functional launching it down the channels at every opportunity, we will see very little of the ball and will go down playing dire football. That first 45 minutes yesterday was as bad as it gets and I wouldn't want to watch that football every week The second half was an improvement. Ward up top with Odemwingie and Brown supporting him is a better option.

Whichever way you look at it, we can't defend for toffee, have nothing of note in midfield, and are devoid of confidence, so it is difficult to see a way out of trouble.
