The first 13 games (14 including the Morecambe debacle) have been a living nightmare. I've never experienced so much frustration watching the strands of a magnificent 3 years being dismantled piece by piece by an inadequate management team. No disrespect to Mr Stubbs but I'm afraid you didn't have what it takes to lead RUFC - a bit of intelligent recruiting in the first place should have precluded you from getting the job. However, that's now history.
So what now for RUFC? I stick by my belief that we have a bunch of players which, managed correctly, have got a mid-table finish in them. However, we're now in the business of catch up and anything above 3rd from bottom will be good enough. The main quality of the new manager has got to be as a motivator. The players will be suffering doubts after what has happened so far, so we need a man who has the ability to rekindle confidence, instil pride in the shirt, extract 100% from everyone for the full game and get them into a winning habit. He also needs to have passion which will have a positive impact on the crowd which of late has had the enthusiasm of wet blanket.
If TS is thinking of a temporary solution to achieve survival this season, I wouldn't be surprised if he called Steve Evans - sorry Brad! If he's looking for a safe, long term pair of hands, Gray's probably favourite. At least he could sort out the comical defending that we've witnessed recently.
Whoever it is, at least we won't have to squirm as we listen to those post match interviews - although I recall that Stuart Gray was hardly side-splittingly funny!
I would genuinely prefer us to appoint one or both of the Chuckle Brothers and lose every game we play than have Evans back. I kid you not. We might be in trouble but there is no trouble that could ever be bad enough for me to make the call to Evans. I swear that if he comes back I will not attend another game until he is gone again and I will write to TS to tell him why. It may not matter to TS in the big scheme of things if I take that stand (although I know I wouldn't be the only one) but there it is. I will feel better for it.

Smiler you arnt on your own with this thinking, as i said on another thread, my bet for manager is Barry Chuckle as he is about what we can afford. As for Evans, I fear we may not see you at NYS for the rest of the season after Reading as I fear no other manager either at a club now or out of work will have the balls to take us on
KJ- 4/9 firm favourite
SE - 4/1
John Pemberton Bristol City Assistant boss - 7/2
If SE comes back - i will cancel my DD and go watch Worcester City, i know, i know, they play in blue and white stripes, but for TS to bring that baffoon back i will stoop low enough to watch a team play in the Wendys colours.
It just cant happen ever. both SE and me watch Worcester City on a regular basis.

I think the idea of a safe pair of hands is simply an illusion. Steve Evans was a safe pair of hands and he was here for a very long time. It simply does not get any better than the tenure of Evans.
As for the squad I think it is the weakest team we have had since we have been at the New York.
ok players:
camp
frecklington
broadfoot
taylor
newall
brown
blackstock.
fisher
I may have missed someone but the following are really L2 players
vaulks
foster caskey
allen
wilson
League one players
Ball
Belaid
Mattock
Forde (possibly L2)
Adeyami
Fry
JCH
I cannot see us closing the gap given the quality really.
January needs to be a big month and also there needs to be one or 2 miracles that no one has picked up without a contract now.
The recruitment was soooo bad it was not believable. The inital appointment of stubbs was so bizarre it seriously calls into question the ability of the board to understand the business of football management.
All too often both the board and the manager we have appointed simply have not shown the ability to recognise a good signing.
what is amazing is that the average fan on here can spot a good player from a bad one within a couple of games. Really, it is amazing when one sits back and reflects.
As for appointing a manager who on earth appoints anyone to any job of responsibility when they have no CV? Mind-boggling!
Just hypothetically, would you rather have a. Steve Evans and Championship survival or b. someone else and relegation? I'm ambivalent about SE - I thought it was the right decision to let him go last season, but has he improved his Championship credentials at Leeds to the extent that he could do a Warnock for us this season?

I was and am a big supporter of Evans. I have nothing but praise and loyalty towards him. He did the job with unending passion and brought the greatest and most emotional roller coaster of success the club has probably ever seen to rival RMs achievement if not better it.
You are right to bring his term at Leeds into the equation. He did well on and off the field. He held his integrity given the very ungracious chairman and clearly stabilised the team and got them wins both home and away.
He is clearly the best man for the job.
What others feel about him is up to them. I admit I dont understand why he is hated so much but I respect their feelings.
for me he has made past mistakes but has paid his price according to the law a long, long time ago. Anyway, no point going over old ground.

Ian - the trouble is, you're judging players based on evidence of them playing for a manager who had little or no tactical nous. I have felt sorry for our backline all season because the foolish deep defending has put them under so much pressure even the best would suc***b. Based on what I've seen and what I think a decent manager could get out of our squad, I would elevate the following to the OK category; Mattock, Fry, Ball, Belaid (really untried) and definitely Adeyemi when fit, oh, and don't forget Wood. As for the other new guys, who knows what untapped potential they have?
Steve Evans won't be able to do it again. He relied heavily on the loan system .... emergency loans in particular so his "grab everything available and discard at will" policies won't cut it this time. Plus I don't think many would like to see the return of Gee Evans as recruitment manager after the mostly rubbish he brought before.
As much as I admired and enjoyed SE's achievements with the promotions, I think it won't be a good fit this time around. Especially with the budgetary restraints and regulation changes. He will get found out big time in this league and this time he won't be able to change it when he gets it wrong .... so be careul what you ask for

Why do some people dislike Evans so much that they say they will stop going to games if he returns as manager?
What has he done to create this type of extreme reaction?
As I recall, he achieved back to back promotions and kept us in the Championship against the odds.
Plenty to be unhappy about there then!
I seem to remember someone on this board making a bold statement last season that if we beat Hull City down at the NYS that someone would reveal all about the reasons behind the sacking of SE.
We beat Hull City of course.
Still waiting for the big reveal.
