and tired of reading Alan Stubbs' criticisms of our players in the press. Players do not respond well to public humiliation - ask Neil Redfearn! More importantly, everyone at NYS apart from AS realises that the criticism is unwarranted and is a blatant tactic to deflect the blame away from the main culprit. When your tactics involve presenting the opposition with the freedom of the pitch and preventing your players from challenging until the ball is in your penalty area, you are condemning players of even the greatest ability to pressure which will inevitably lead to mistakes. Defend like we did against Forest ie. forwards pressuring Forest defenders as they bring the ball out from the back, midfielders closing down anyone with the ball who crosses the halfway line, and all of a sudden your back four is relieved of constant pressure and look more comfortable. It's not rocket science but it appears to be beyond AS's comprehension. Stop whinging Alan, play the correct tactics on Saturday and watch your players blossom. Anything less will be unforgivable and will suggest that you don't really know what you're doing!
Just seems to be digging a bigger hole, if he's not happy with the frequency of mistakes, how's about focusing on those and addressing them. Players don't make mistakes on purpose - as you rightly say, they don't want to see or hear that their boss has criticised them albeit collectively and not naming names publicly
TS is to blame im afriad, shud have give Warnock the 20k a week he wanted, instead he saved a few quid short term and set on a lad who has no championship expereince and the personality of a pebble ! His recruits from scotland are generally poor ( in the chmapionship) our best 2 players are on loan from prem. Send the rest back asap and get some quality in quick. And get someone in instead/with who knows how to set a team up to defend
Spot on post Glenn. I would also add though that only two weeks ago AS was saying that he would always stand by and back his players, by last Saturday he saying he's sick and tired of them not doing as they are told ! Well they are his players as Nellinio says
I know, its really rubbish when we see this inconsistency from someone. Its a mixed message and thats never good for anyone's sanity . He did say he would always stand by the team and then he said he didnt care what the fans thought and he is too big to be bothered .
Its very unfortunate he then starts getting angry at the players and more to the point cant contain it and channel it. It just is not a good look and apart from making him appear likes he has lost control it probably does make players confused. It is certainly making the onlookers confused.
The criticism of his set up on the field have brought comments from all the fans and Journalists , and that alone should suggest there is something people arent understanding and thus stubbs should be noticing that the combined comments of all of these individuals suggest there are some significant questions about what is happening. Its so fundamental that there is consensus, but he is currently acting like someone who will not listen or worse, cannot hear it because he doesnt have the capacity as a manager.
We all hope his criticism is perceived as positive and something the players can rise too,. He isnt the first manager that has been outspoken and some of those have been very successful. The outstanding issue though is the issues the OP pointed out. The immense pressure our defence has to endure is quite incredible and quite unnatural for a football game. I dont quite remember seeing a performance like the forest one. I couldnt understand what on earth was happening. Yet, this was the team and formation the manager had set up. It was never going to hold out in a hundred attempts.
We have all seen enough football to understand the balance has to be good between attack and defence. There are attacking minded and defending minded managers...but , stubbs, well, he appears to be someone who wants to perfectly balance the books.
I think I ll call him the flawed Accountant.

He cant. Even if the window wasn't shut, we are unable to bring in even out of contract players unless they hobbled !!
I'm not trying to stand in for the troll, but there is some element of truth in this with regard to individual performances - that Wilson only has one instruction "head it away from the goal" and he fails to comply with it for 90 mins.
