All well and good, and I do have a great deal of sympathy with the Rotherham way. However the agents and grossly inflated price tags are the nature of the beast, its how the game has evolved and unless every football club takes the same approach as Rotherham then I'm afraid we'll always be the whipping boys. If you want to shop in Harrods, dont expect to pay asda prices.
TS makes the analogy of shopping in a super market with Harrods price tags, but my suggestion is you cant be in Harrods (Championship) and expect to pay supermarket (L1) prices. The result will be you'll walk out of Harrods empty handed, unless that is, you are very astute and/or lucky, thus far it appears we have been neither.
I guess I'm asking the question, where do we want to compete, Championship or L1. If you have to ask how much, you can't afford it, as the saying goes.
I'm sorry but it all smacks of rank bad planning. Do you believe for one moment that the other clubs who did their business on deadline day did so without prior knowledge of their targets likely demands? To be surprised at 10:30 pm on the day suggests we didn't do enough up front work on these deals.
