the North of England's third world hospitals.

Without going in to too much detail why, I have had the misfortune of visiting  many of our hospitals across the North Of England in recent months and the standard of care, facilities, security, and communication is abysmal.

Anyone who claims otherwise needs  psychiatric help.....but I would advise you go abroad for your treatment.

Sounds like you've visited a lot of hospitals, can't comment on those really, only went to Rotherham once I think when 10 having me ears done, had a brief stay at Donny in early 20s with a virus near me ticker which seemed OK. But what I will say is the hospital and care in Exeter & Plymouth has been fantastic, mostly for my ex-wife who had a brain bleed 5yrs back (and the care since), 2 births and when I destroyed my knee last year it was second to none. In fact its only when you visit an intensive care unit you see where the real hero's are and where probably a lot of the cash goes, and that is where it matters isn't it?

Maybe there's some kind of irregularity with funding versus head of population?

Its all down to personal experience, I had to spend several months in and out of Rotherham hospital and was treated with the utmost respect, professional behaviour and the best of treatments. I did however have to spend one night in Sheffield norther general which was like going back to the 60's.
