It is really hard to judge based on pre-season games, but after further reflection we have got a lot of good central midfielders but lack natural width in midfield. Forde is the only wide player we have and he hasn't shown much yet. Newell would improve that on the left side. As I see it if we play 442 we have Halford, Forster-Caskey, Frecklington, Smallwood and Vaulks competing for two central midfield spots unless we are going to play players out of position, which rarely works.

Broadfoot and Wood are solid citizens but looked all at sea at times on Saturday and most of last night.

Kelly I quite like but not necessarily at full back, and Mattock seems to have moments when he knocks off defensively.

We all know we are looking for a striker or two to come in.

I get the sense that AS might himself be getting frustrated by the lack of activity. No need to panic, but we do seem to be some way short of where we need to be,

from the manager after Scunny game... ""We said that there was a lot of work to be done, on and off the pitch. I have said all along that we are working as hard as we can to bring the right type of players in. "

in other words we are far from good enough as we stand today with the players we (don't) have...

This would be an OK statement to make in May or June, but a bit worrying with 10 days to go before we are savaged by some Wolves...

I'm taking a cushion to hide behind expecting a Horror show ... but hoping it has a Disney happy ending instead at 4.50 pm on the 6th

:) UTM

I wonder if we are missing out now on targets in some numbers? I too, sense some concern in his latest interview. The pressure must be getting to him, with just ten days to go and being down to the bare bones squad wise. I think it's a good idea that we don't have any more pre season games given the chance that we may incur injuries.
