Dont know much about who is out there, but I'd opt for Gray. Did a good job at Hillsborough without the funds that matey boy now has, largely defensive but stopping goals is as important as scoring em, we simply must consolidate in the championship and build.
Genuine question because I don't know much about him, but why have I seen people tipping Bowyer?
I went on his wiki page to see his credentials to find he's only played 50 games in his football career and has caretaker managed. This record makes Redfearn look like Mourinho on paper.
Am I missing something?
Would have to be Gray for me, although I didn't like his negative football - He's the best of a dross bunch!

Agree with that Towdlad, out of that list anyway.
More concerned that I'm a million percent certain that Warnock not staying would have been around discussions on player budget rather than Neil's personal terms, which means it doesn't matter too much who we get.
Warnock proved he could motivate what we already have better than Evans or Redfearn and I think would have said something like 'we need a handful of new players and a budget of around £x', so instead of a gamble on a few players but a proven manager, we will have an unproven (with this team) manager and very little funds for players. :(
Bowyer did OK at blackburn and had a really good spell at one point . He was a good player for us in his short time before injury.
I think warnock left because he has a better offer. He would have known the terms and conditions if the time line of his departure is accurate. I think it seems he got cold feet and a better offer.
Without wanting to be the new troll on this site (now the old one has retired) I actually don't think Evans would be the worst choice in the world. He's now got a few years of managing at this level under his belt and better understands the requirements. The players we have were largely brought here by him albeit played wrongly and often not at all. His reputation on transfers is that he signs a lot of players - but that's the nature of the poor clubs. Akin to acquiring gold - if you can afford it just buy a gold bar, otherwise you are in the river scooping up all the silt and hoping there's a few grains of the stuff in there with all the crap. He's certainly not my first choice but I'm not suicidal if he is TS choice.
I agree it is down to money available for players and players wages. Us and Burton will be lowest payers next year warnock is no fool didn't want relegation on his cv to end career. We need to spend on a striker a midfielder and a centre back to stand a chance and 5000 grand a week won't be enough
Agree that Evans wouldn't be a disaster under anything like normal cir***stance , he didn't let us down and may well have kept us up. My only big issue is that he did show some poor judgement regarding the centre of defence.
So, he will have gained more experience at Leeds , but do you know what, neither TS , or SE , will want to be reunited and there are way to many potential issues in our dressing room to even contemplate it.
That aside , I think his stock has risen and he can look forward to plenty of new opportunities.

In addition to knowing his football and not being someone who will kill us long term, I want our manager to be a decent man. To me that is very important.
An experienced manager that has proven himself to manage in the championship for a few years achieving midtable with limited funds.
Villa and Newcastle are huge clubs Burnley and boro are medium size clubs Wigan will also have money as well. us and Burton are the smallest clubs in the league and a 3rd season in 21st place will be very difficult to achieve harder that the last two we need a man that understands that we do need to stretch the budget on a goal scorer as well. Add in an experienced midfielder and extra centre back and we have a chance. If we cut corners on those 4 appointments we will really struggle.
I don't know who fits that bill but it isn't bowyer it isn't Evans. Freedman or gray maybe options but .......

Quite right to point to our budget. MK went down because he did not know how to manage a game when the going got tough. His playing style was off balance for the strength of his squad.
We don't need someone unrealistic like Redders turned out to be and I hope TS has learnt this lesson too.
We need a character like pulis, allidyce. Forget Klopp type managers who want to tear up the coaching manual and make a name for themselves forget players like sterling who clearly aren't good enough at even what they do best for the league they are in. That dont have the full set of attributes that a team sport and long season need.
The lack of funds is a bigger problem than the manager in many respects - we could do with some serious investment, and need it if we are to be anything in this division other than lucky scrappers aiming for 21st place every season. TS has been excellent but like SE he has a level at which he can perform effectively - not knocking him but it's not great entertainment for us fans if our goal is to narrowly avoid the drop each year.
