If we get a new manager

How can he decide who to retain, where our weaknesses are and the best players to add to our current squad to push us mid table. He will never have watched them and apart from Paul warne all the coaches will have gone with Warnock so very little advise. We could of course all offer our advise but you would get various opinion, me I would say a right back, two wingers, midfield general and a forward. That's five, I tried to be realistic. I would like us to get stronger in the midfield so we can free up halfords position but you could go on and on about shape, tactics etc and I'm a regular season ticket holder. So back to my point how on earth can our new manager if we have to get one possably recruit?

Mmm. There's a lot to do. Not only that but we've got a lot of players who aren't going to want to age another year. We have to absolutely replace G.Ward and get a long term right back. Frecks is a legend but its questionable how long he can keep doing it for and although its been tried with Newell as his backup - I don't think you see that as a longer term solution. Derbyshire is no left midfielder either I'd wonder whether he could do that all season long. I am though using the perspective of progression and removing ourselves from the relegation scrap. The players we have with the right manager like NW can keep us up another year with 2 or 3 additions. If you want mid table it will have to be double that easy and that is going to cost us. I wonder how much the budget went into the red this year on the bet that it could be recovered next season. While on the face of it its worked for the short term, if we're missing a 1/3 of the playing budget because of the disastrous errors this season it's going to hurt us. But lets keep living the dream, if we want to grow people need to see us as a regular Championship club, likewise sort out G&C, units and Training ground etc. And for now that's the case when it looked to all and sundry that we would end up in L1.

All very good points.

There are key decisions to make on who to release and who to recruit.

The list of released players is likely to be a long one. I will mention Ledesma, Collins, Buxton, Green, Richardson, Becchio and Collin as certs. Some of them have given good service and others not so. You can argue the toss then about the likes of Best, Thorpe, Derbyshire, Kelly, Thomas, Doyley, Kenny, Wood and Smallwood. A few of them I would keep but not all.

I believe that all those mentioned above are out of contract. Of course, there might be some like Broadfoot who we would want to keep but he might have other ideas.

The likely number of releases should create some room for some good additions, but they need to be the right ones. Quality not quantity - where have we heard that before? (a look at the list of players who will surely be released this summer and those released already this year tells a story).

I agree that the key thing is to get whoever is going to be the boss confirmed as the boss asap. If its not NW then someone else. They will have access to all sorts of DVD's, stats and opinions.

I also agree with Exeter that there is much to do off the pitch.

Exciting times!

First thing for me is that we focus on staying up as a happy achievement. If NW is not happy with that then by his own admission he should move on.

If he stays then I agree it's an easier decision regarding recruitment as he already knows who he would keep and players are more likely to be settled.

Love him to stay but what can he gain personally? He kept us up in a fantastic display of motivation and shrewd tactics using the players we had already. 11 game unbeaten run and kept us up - legend status attained. If we go down next year the shine will go off his memory (we are all fickle - I remember when we worshipped the big/small guy). I can't think of anyone I'd want more but the lure of Villa or Sunderland etc might be our undoing.

Sunderland New Yorkshire? I ask because they have big Sam. They seem to be happy with him so cant see him being shown the door. He has a decent pedigree.

At the end of the day warnock has a decision to make, Its my belief he has already has given his conditions to tony stewart .

So if tony wants his dream then he wil have to Iam afraid push the boat out a bit and spend but warnock will spend wisely

Mine too, but I dont think that would be a bad thing, it would force TS' hand where, perhaps, he may be a little reluctant. A leap of faith in other words

ps although paul douglas does a good job i do think he is bit on the cautious side and no one wants the bad old days to return but in this league we wil have  to invest heavily  to get the returns and chance of the big time
