Thinking about the clubs we have played at home recently made me realise how lucky we are to have a local man who we can associate with at the head of the club. Cellino at Leeds, Fawaz at Forest and Venky's at Blackburn have no affinity with the clubs they own and there is a complete disconnect (in fact there is animosity) between owners and supporters. Look down the road to S2 and see what the Blades think of The Prince. All is going swimmingly in S6 for The Owls and their Tuna King for now, but is he in it for the long haul and why? Time will tell. For me, whilst there have been some examples of foreign owners of football clubs doing a good job they have been the exception rather than the rule. What would Rovers give for a latter day Jack Walker at the moment? Give me a Tony Stewart over a Venky's any day. He might not have the wealth of a Randy Lerner, a Saudi Prince or an Indian poultry magnate, but he is big enough for us, we can identify with each other and it feels like we are all pulling in the same direction. Thanks Tony.
I share your sentiments about TS - he really is a Rotherham lad and we should be grateful to him, but I would love to get our own Abramovich, all the same.
The only way we would ever get to see us play Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool is with significant investment and TS hasn't got the funds. I've been watching us for 45 years so I'm not a glory hunter by any means - but would love a season or two competing (and competing) with the big boys.
I know Bournemouth and Burnley have done it, but there's been investment and a lot of luck there and Burnley were found out.
I think TS is brilliant though and him bringing in partners would be the best option in my opinion.
