Interesting development as his rape conviction is quashed but has to stand a retrial. At 27 already, even if he is found not guilty his career and earning potential is going to be greatly reduced.
The idea of consent has been blurred by years of male abuse and privilege. This has been in the public eye but its a very common issue. Guilt or not is not always determined by a court.
Only the man and women involved know the real intent and feeling behind it.
Whether or not a jury of his peers finds him guilty of the offence in criminal law is obviously very important and it is right that due process be followed and the right result achieved (whatever that is). In a sense though that is a bit academic as far as I am concerned. If he is acquitted now it will be a hollow victory. Regardless, he will still have much to regret and much to be ashamed of, and he will have been the author of his own misfortune.
Whatever the outcome of this the fact remains that Evans had sex with a 19 year old girl in a hotel room and she was so drunk she claims she cannot remember. Afterwards he left by the fire escape. All very seedy and unsavoury behaviour.
And after one of his mates had just had sex with the same girl, and with his mates watching through the window, and while he had a long term partner at home. And these are the facts that aren't in dispute. Then the social media campaign that was run by or for him on his website which was totally slanted, generated hostility towards the girl and showed scant regard for proper process. Hence my earlier post S8 - guilty or not of the offence he has behaved disgracefully and acquitted or not I wouldn't want him anywhere near the NYS.
