A FEW OBSERVATIONS

NYS is not a place for the faint of heart. If it's nail-biting excitement you want, NW's side deliver it in spades!

Away from the footie for a minute:

  - Rotherham Council hang your heads in shame. Parking fees increased 100% - £3 to park on the roadside long enough to see the game. If you're trying to encourage people to visit the town centre and to support your football team, you're sure going a strange way about it!

  - Can we please get rid of that horrendous siren that sounds before kickoff? It's annoying, it's pointless and it's an embarrassment!

  - Rotherham fans gave SE a deserved great reception before the game and towards the end gave him few choruses of 'sacked in the morning' just in case he thought he had any mates left at NYS!

  - Congrats to all those Millers' fans who called Praise or Grumble - for once the entire journey home was virtually all RUFC talk rather than listening to some unintelligible Italian.

Onto the football. We started like a team who had been taking it easy for a couple of weeks. Leeds were sharp, great on the ball and comfortable in defence but their final ball was poor to the extent that I don't think Camp had a meaningful save to make in the first half. As the first half progressed we got more into it and a fabulous cross from Mattock was met by our man of the season, Lee Frecklington, who must cover more turf than anyone else in the side.

Derbyshire's sending off was a mystery to everyone around me and I look forward to seeing a replay. I am convinced that Kevin 'No Mates' Friend awarded a throw in to Rotherham immediately after the incident. It was only after the 'assaulted' defender punched the ground 6 or 7 times and the Ref was surrounded by 6 or 7 Leeds' players that he took any action against Derbs. I can only imagine he had a word in his ear from either the Linesman or the 4th official. It all looked a bit bizarre and ruined the game - or so I thought.

Rotherham's defence performed heroics keeping out the Leeds' onslaught with bodies flying everywhere. Their goal was just one of those things - a shot going nowhere diverted in off Broadfoot's backside I think. At that stage I thought that we'd be lucky to hang on for a draw.

There then followed a masterpiece of refereeing as Friend played advantage after Grant Ward had yet again been dragged down on a counter attack. Danny Ward's pinpoint cross to Frecklington was simply superb as was Freck's skill in flicking the ball past the Leeds' keeper and getting not only a penalty but also the keeper sent off. I've got a feeling that Halford claimed the ball to take the penalty because he thought he had something to prove to Mr Evans following his wilderness period after he joined us.

The rest was history but in future the record will not reveal the sheer medieval torture that we Millers' fans go through in supporting our team. Which made the final whistle and the victory all the more special, with New York New York ringing out at full volume and a vigorous performance by the WS8 can-can squad!

My only concern with today's line up - and it feels like treachery even mentioning it after such a gutsy display, is that I don't think Best and Derbyshire work too well together. Danny Ward's ability in the air and to hold the ball up would make him a starter for me everytime. I wouldn't mind seeing him start with Best - which may be the case if Derbyshire's red card is not rescinded.

Thanks for another great show NW. Perhaps we could have a supply of valium available for anyone who feels the need during the remaining games.

I thought we were comfortable though on the back foot.

Quality ball by mattock that as soon as he hit it you could see it was going to cause a real issue. Bang! 1-nil.

After derbs went off ( must have hit him so...), I thought we did well for spells. Good shape behind the ball and keeping cool. Leeds used the ball quite well at times however and just when I was certain we would hold out a deflected shot leaves camp stranded.

I'm sure you are right about Halford.

Unbelievable rum of amazing games.

Really great stuff.

Where can you get entertainment and passion and joy like we've had over the last 6 games.  Bloody marvelous.

yes, really enjoyed that game after the final whistle but bloody torture during it. The ref was consistently poor for both sides, if he is premiership quality I will show my arris in boots window.

Great post Glenn. Agree that Danny Ward needs to start, however Warnock does like Derbyshire's work ethic, but will now have to play Best and Ward.

just watched the highlights and the ref gives a throw in to us, before realising Derbyshires challenge has drawn blood and then sends him off. Very harsh on Derbs - there is a great video of him on Twitter from Lisa Twigg celebrating Halfords penalty.

What a game today, I just can't believe the transformation under Warnock. So proud to be a miller tonight.....

We have a really solid defensive shape now, with all players participating in that shape, even when teams crack that shape, we're oh so willing to chuck the bodies on the line, great to see, just great. I'm more than happy to see the possesion stats as us less than 50%, teams can **** about with it all they want in their own half, love to see it.

Agree with all those initial observations except the sirens which strangely I quite like, and the thought that Evans ever deserves a good reception anywhere which I respectfully disagree with.   I thought Derbyshire was ineffective yesterday. He isn't my favourite in any case as it happens. There is no chance his red will be overturned but my own opinion is that we are no worse off with any of Newell, D Ward, JCH or Thomas wide left. I thought the Evans return went pretty well. For me it isn't about the results he got for us - it is about the sort of man he is. On the other board there are calls for anyone who gave him stick to explain themselves as if it is a crime not to love the guy. I didn't give him any abuse, but I couldn't ever applaud anyone with his proven track record of offences against the game we all love. Even if you don't agree with that standpoint (which is fine) it isn't difficult to understand is it? After the match you could tell he was seething which made it all the sweeter to have won. A good day all round.

I didn't applaud him yesterday & neither did a few around me. The man left this club on its knees after using a method to gain success which makes a mockery of his profession and the FA badges he's had to complete to carry on in management at the level he's at.

Leeds were totally what I've seen all season and expected, lots of pretty football, utterly clueless in the final third.

I heard a few people mention to get a foot in, get in their faces when they were stringing those passes together. That kind of football is designed to pick you off if you do exactly that, we were tactically spot on (not for the first time), saying you have it, get 60% possession if you want, we'll keep our shape let you run into us, then break at pace. We might not make many chances but as we're counter attaacking you we're making better quality chances.

Its amazing - how many people darn sarf have said, now that Evans has left we wish Rotherham all the best, we're winning back old friends and long may it continue.

All Warnock has done is brought the enjoyment back into the players, I've heard Frecks say its back to basics. That's all players want, to know their jobs and know them well. Start getting the tablet computers, OPTA stats and wearing GPS trackers and it's gone. All that tech and over thinking will never out do graft, guile a refusal to be beaten and 11 players sweating blood for each other. Look at Leicester. Is it 6 1-0 wins they've had?

All fans want to see what we are being served up, your team running through walls, we haven't seen that since Ronnie's first tenure. Yes sometimes you'll get undone but if the fans walk out even after losing and say they've given it a massive go - they'll be back next week. That is what sustainability is all about.

Deffo Ex, though I did applaud Evens as he did much good for us on the field and generally wore the badge with pride.

The way the team shape is and the discipline has been the most pleasing part of this recent managerial change. I think Redfern tried to do too much at once. He got the shape right but moved the players around the pitch too much and asked too much of the midfield at times and I think this contributed to some nice performances going forward but utter disaster protecting our final third.

on reflection i totally agree also he may have been unable to motivate them like warnock does but that skill comes with experience

Collins & Green not playing + Burke that's got to help. On 1st sight I'm not a fan of Doyley at centre back, Height.

D Ward got to start, our 1st choice striker.
