Hi Guys I am after abit of help tracing the wearer of a shirt my mum owns. She has often said it was Ronnie moores and was given to her by a player on the pitch at the end of a season. However the number on the back is number 2 so I doubt it is ronnies but would appreciate help learning whos it is. Its the old yellow shirt with blue shoulders. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't even know the year.
I am sure that a lot of you will know better than I do, but Gerry Forrest was with us through the whole of Ronnie's time with us. I bet Forrest (and what a player he was) wore the number two shirt in 95% of the games Ronnie played for us. If you know the manufacturer of the shirt that might help someone nail it down a bit. In the period 1980 to 83 (Ronnie's time) I think we wore the Hobott shirts, and the away one had a yellow body and blue sleeve. Don't know if that helps at all or jogs anyone's memory.
millerspee. I have a similar conundrum to you. I have a shirt which is yellow with the number 5 on the back. I recall taking Derek Dalton to Southport God knows how many years ago, and, in my mind I got it there off Paul Stancliffe. I have thought of taking it to the club to donate IF it is where it originates from. Anyway, I digress. Ronnie I think wore a number 9.
Hi smiler it is indeed the hobott shirt all yellow with blue sleeves/shoulders and a striped yellow and blue collar. The number 2 on the back is also blue. Thanks for all your replies and help with this. Just need zippy to confirm.
Hiya Millespee.....as Smiler stated, there's a 95% chance of it belonging to Gerry Forrest.
The only other players to wear the No 2 shirt in competitive games during that era were
1980-81 Ken Tiler 2 games
1981-82 Emlyn Hughes 7 Lge games 1 FA Cup game at Sunderland
1982-83 Billy McEwan 3 games
3 County Cup games were also played during this period just to confuse matters further and the No 2 shirt was worn by Ian Vaughan in one game and a young lad called Benton played in the other 2.
but the odds are stacked in favour of it being Gerry's, especially if it was worn on that last day of the season you mentioned.
