I don't know if this has been posted but there's to be a testimonial at Derby on the 24th March for our ex player Shaun Barker, i used to enjoy watching Shaun,he had a great long throw and also had the passion that NW has instilled into our players in our present relegation fight. He came through the system at Rotherham from a junior to being a regular first teamer. I also remember the horrific tackle from Jason McAteer that could have ruined Shauns career at a much earlier age.He is only 33 now but it seems a lifetime since he played for us.

His injury was horrific. Having done 50% of what he did, I really know what he went through afterwards. Fair play to Derby who enabled him to have top care & also being good on their contract. It sickened me when I read his blog, other than David Busst & Fabrice, I don't recall such a horrific injury and I include Brogan in that!

There really has to be more research why more and more players are getting these types of injury, I think there's been 4 this season Danny Ings, Callum Wilson, a couple in the Championship I know about. I did mine in indoor football for goodness sake, nobody near me, I wasn't tired physically or mentally

Good luck to him though, the surgery and recovery techniques in this area has come on leaps and bounds pardon the pun I wish Barker all the best. There are many forms of football and even though he won't play at that level again football is inclusive to all with many local schemes for anybody to get involved no matter what physical or mental impairment. Failing that there's coaching, and youth coaching if at a good well run, well funded club is extremely rewarding- seeing those players progress and develop because of your teachings is something else.

MCAteer meant it. I've had two High tibial Osteotomy operations and they have enabled me to carry on playing at 50. Medicine has come on leaps and bounds now,
