A premature, but positive view of League 1:

  1. We will have only 11 players or so left in contract, means the new manager will have funds available. (albeit we will quickly need to build a new ‘team’)

  2. The manager’s funds are likely to be competitive with the majority of other League 1 sides, as opposed to being the obvious issue we had in the Championship.

  3. I don’t think we will lose too many season ticket holders, as a lot of us are hard-core who love the club and love NYS... and a lot of the newbies joined because of the new stadium and a few fantastic seasons.

  4. I see a lot of kids around in the crowd now, more than we used to have I think, a lot of them will want to watch the Millers with their mates, mums and dads next year.

  5. We will likely to be playing at home : Chessy, Donny, Barnsley, Sheff U, Bradford, S****horpe, Coventry… these are all 8,500+ crowds and money in the coffers for the future.

  6. All the above games will mean will still have a good atmosphere at a lot of games, and a good number of local games to go away to.

  7. We have the chance of a new manager who might be a good one (Evans was great until we got in the Championship, when he lost it, combined with bad decisions from the club around losing good players and not buying some of the ones we should have landed)

  8. TS can take the learnings from two seasons in the Championship and be better prepared to both question and support the manager when we get back up. For example, expect whatever budget we have to be spent better and not allow the manager free reign to bring in too many loanees, and hopefully see that from time to time we need to take a small gamble on better players we should have kept or bought.

  9. If I win £40M or more on the lotto or Euromillions, I will invest £10M in the club (yes I really really would, £30M is plenty for everything else!) and give my thoughts direct to TS and help to point out the obvious things on all our behalf that the current people around him seem to be failing to do. (Failing that I will just renew my season ticket and come on here… J)

Absolutely. I was always of the opinion L1 would set this club back, but why should it? The gap between fighting for survival and being an established Championship club is eye watering, and we are so far removed from it, why are we trying right now when so much emphasis is placed (financially) on having a playing budget to try and compete.

We need to get our own house in order & go for that when WE are ready, much the same as we were ready to go from L2 to L1. As you say all those local derby's will really whet the appetite of floating a prospective fans, as games such as that involve the local area. I would say as much they're more of a draw than the likes of Middlesbrough coming to town for example. And that is what we need to build - interest away from the pitch, building support & infrastructure.

There's no fun for anyone to be losing every week and that in my opinion is more damaging than competing in the top 8 of the league below, I think the board know this & secretly behind closed doors have grand designs of taking us down to allow us to reset & build for what's required by this league properly

£10 million will buy a new gold tooth for JCH and a new handbag for Mrs Doubtfire.

But I agree with your League 1 statements. I want to see us develop our youth more - AND THEN USE THEM!

Facts are we will be a big contender in League 1 and a relegation prospect in the championship for the foreseeable future.
