so where do we go from here

after reading a lot of posts and opinions on here and the other one

i think a lot of fans seem to be getting mixed messages from the board .

they want premiership football but to acheive that then we have totally change the format the club is run. yes i do believe that part of the business plan when nys was concieved was icluding the projected revenue from the outlets on the ground and the guest a grimes redevelopment none of which have materialised.

was redfearn the wrong choice hind sigh is a wonderful thing i think he would have better as a coach then the boss

Redfearn was probably the right man but at the wrong time. With TV money going up next year we have to remain in the championship at all costs. Without changing his beliefs Redfearn was probably going to take us down.

The board have gambled on the next manager keeping us up. In my opinion the next manager should have a 'win at all costs attitude' even if that means being more aggressive on the pitch and taking the odd dive or two.

He was the wrong man.

I think the evidence was there from a few games in and some saw it and said it but granted others may think those opinions were bias.

As it went on the evidence piled up. There was and is nothing at all that suggests Neil Redfern is a good manager or indeed can become one.

Would tend to disagree with the above although I do understand the argument. I think he was the right man, wrong time, wrong place, so yes I see where your all coming from, but he was trying a) to keep us in the Championship and b) trying to start building for the future, all this with one hand tied behind his back. It was a poison chalice who ever took over in my view.

To begin with we had a squad of players he inherited were not going to do it and yes, they had just won two games on the bounce, but that is not evidence enough for me to suggested we had 'turned the season round', and as Smiler has often said, one win was against a side weary from an exhausting mid week game and the second from a ten man team won from a single penalty. Also I believe many played with fear of the manager and were probably wishing they were some place else.

Had Redfearn been appointed in the summer he would have had time to build his own squad from scratch rather than adopting a sticking plaster approach. Options which were open to Evans in terms of budget, simply were not there for Redfearn. He had to rely on kids, and aging free agents who have proved to be absolutely no use whatsoever being permanently injured.

In terms of team selection and formation, I dont feel qualified enough to pass comment on the technical aspect so I accept the general opinion that his tactics were wrong, which does suggest a lack of experience. Never the less, I think, had he been appointed in the summer, I think he could have been a good manager for us with a flow of young talented players coming through in a year or twos time. But we can never know about what has never been.

Unlike many, I dont believe that Evans would have turned things round either.

So the post is "where do we go from here". On field I would like to see Warnock appointed as manger till the end of the season, he has all the attributes we need and respect in the game to pull us through, thats if he wants it. That gives time to look at who may be available and cast a wide net, with thorough vetting, not that that would guarantee success, but would be less of a lucky dip.

Commercially I dont know the true situation so again can only repeat what has already been said about developing the area to create further income, but what I do find worrying is the suggestion that TS' son seems to be having an influence which from what the rumour mill is suggesting is having a somewhat negative effect. Add to this the silence from TS until his statement last week about Premiership football is the aim, seems quite baffling and suggests to me that there is not the cohesion and purpose needed at the moment. If all of what we hear is true then it seems the core of the club is in some flux, it would be nice to know that there is stability and the overall management is in safe hands irrespective of which division we play in.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could have a Fans' Forum so we could ask a few of these questions directly to the men in charge?
Can't see it happening though.

This is probably unorthodox but if they do get Warnock in they should also get his replacement in at the same time if its a Wilder L2 type ilk and without Championship experience. That will give the replacement 16 games to be a number 2, learn from Warnock's experience and assess the players in proper game time, particular when up against it and with added pressure. There is nothing to be gained in having a new man starting in the summer if we stay up or not. Everything just seems a mess from the board through the 'tech committee', if this is not sorted properly it could spell L1 football for a long time. If we are prepared to go over budget which we clearly must have done this season the onus is on making that loss back, which can only be got with Championship football - so I understand the boards urgency. However it will be futile if they go the cheap value for money option, they have to do what is absolutely necessary now and throw the right money at it, including loan wages to ensure our survival, it really is in the boards hands from now on in.

The interview with Mel Morris at Derby is very interesting.

Gives some insight in to the very different views an owner might have than the rest of the outside world.

As I have said before get Warnock in and let him help set club up because we dont seem to have any experienced football men involved dont mean this as criticism but as an observation , if TS lighting company needed any help I doubt he would call on a football man its horses for courses .

I think the Rotherham United board need to stop dreaming about the Premiership. We simply don't have the resources to compete. If by some miracle we stayed up and were top in January next season, the likes of Derby and Hull and Boro this season, Aston Villa etc next season would just pillage our squad and the second half of the season would be played with inferior players.

We are Rotherham United. We are at our maximum level now and barring a miracle should plan to retain and maintain it.

Wednesday have a Billionaire foreign fish magnate and a ground, although outdated, that is capable of holding 40,000 ish. Let's get real.
