Danny Ward is not employable in my eyes, injured far too much and that's unfortunate, but its the nature of the business. To get 20 goals you need 50 games a season, Danny Ward has and will only play a third of that. Needs to be released when his contract is up, there's always coaching!
Can't agree Ex. He was the most underrated player against Bristol and ran his heart out mainly covering for calamity Collins. His injury on Saturday came once more from his endeavour to cut out a Wolves move down the right touchline. He's got the hard-work and positive mindset that we need at RUFC and has displayed it in spades under NR. I'm not sure he'll ever be a prolific goalscorer but to be fair he's rarely been played in a position where he would be expected to score regularly. I reckon NR will stick with him and together with Best and JCH he could be part of a powerful front line which could go toe to toe with some of the physical centrebacks that are around in the Championship.
Sorry but I agree with Exeter. Danny Ward is a liability and frequently injured. He seems to pick up injuries when he's not doing much too. Came off during the warm up at Derby and substituted at Middlesbrough after giving a virtually anonymous performance, yet he came off injured!
There has to be better and fitter strikers that we can afford. Get rid asap.
I dont question his desire and talent - I actually like him, he brings a fear factor and urgency plus unknown quantity to the attack, but to be your best and be a net asset to the team you need to play long runs of games, Danny Ward always seems to play 3 miss 10, that's no helping him or us
agree totally.. we can hardy afford the players we have and don't have the luxury of carrying part timers, he AND Mattock must go, nothing to do with ability - we can't afford to pay them for gardening leave . It's no different to any working person - if you asked for a years salary for 10 days work they would laugh you off the premises and give you the brown envelope....
I also like him but where to play him is an issue - neither a winger nor a striker - so for me he is a good man to have on the bench at best, and the bottom line is if he is never fit he isn't any good to us.
Danny Ward is a sicknote pure and simple and we simply can't afford to carry people like him in our squad.
He gets injured too easily and too often which makes me wonder about his commitment and desire.
I think it's pretty obvious why Huddersfield let him go.
Simply outstanding today! No centre-forward we have played since Revell has had the skill to control, hold up and distribute the ball as he did today. There's a few pieces of humble pie left for anyone who considers that they need a piece.
No humble pie needed at all. He played really well yesterday. He played really well against Reading when we secured safety last season. In between he has had more time in the treatment room than he has on the pitch. If what he offers is two or three good performances a season then that isn't good enough however much ability he has. It's no good turning round after one of the good games and saying 'what about that then?'. He has to do it regularly. Well played for yesterday Danny - keep it up son.
This is not a one off comment after one game Smiler. If you check the thread, I was defending him earlier after what I considered to be a top display against Bristol and then his workrate against Wolves which unfortunately resulted in his injury. Yesterday was confirmation of what I had claimed about his ability previously. I admit he's not been top class on every outing but then name me a player in this team who has - Broadfoot excepted. BTW - the humble pie was only on offer it wasn't compulsory!

I remember Norwich too.
But, like you say, and its been his career thus far, he needs to be fit and mentally right. Both of these things are challenges to him. Hes talented but doesnt have the heart for consistency.
Hey Smiler - dare I say it? What about that then?! Another cracking performance with a coolly taken goal to add to his credentials. I do admit to a few palpitations in the first half when he stayed down twice after hefty challenges. Are you ready to jump onboard the Danny Ward carousel yet?
To be honest I didn't think he was great today, but he took his goal well and he worked hard so fair play to him and long may it continue. He is noticeably a few pounds lighter than he was at the start of the season. I thought a couple of times first half he had done his back/ knee in again but he kept going. Good effort.
