The king is dead - long live the king. They don't get it do they? Seb Coe now - not necessarily taking a direct bung but taking money from Nike whilst at the same time second in command at the organisation that decides without a vote to give the world athletics championships to the small town where Nike is based. Very obviously a conflict at the very least. Why can't he see that? Greg Dyke with his Rolex gift. Pathetic. These aren't daft people. They know the score.

I admire your professionalism Smiler.

It stinks to high heaven doesnt it.

Its become such common practice and involving huge sums of money and prestige and interconnected political and corporate governance gain that its impossible to tell the good guys from the bad anymore.

Its everywhere and probably always was but it doesnt mean its right and I m at least glad we have some systems to bring to account and question actions and motives.

My name was shared with the head of a local Government where I once worked. I would always get the emails addressed to this individual and sometimes they were of a very sensitive political nature.

There were instances of double dealing and pay offs taking place and playing off international investment with local investment. I was young at the time and wasnt quite sure to do with what I was reading but I had no doubt then and now that is was significant manipulation via lies and to benefit certain companies and individuals.

you are right when you say they arent stupid. They arent stupid, but what they are is men and women of a certain nature/personality type that find manipulation second nature and often have a lack of empathy and limited social conscience.

Here is one of an increasing amount of 'research' and comment of the phenomena.

It does indeed stink to high heaven Ian. I am not sure if these are people who go into the job because they want to play these games or whether they are once good men who have their heads turned or perhaps become de-sensitised by what goes on around them, but either way these organisations are rotten to the core. You can't to my mind fudge it by having registers of interest for the likes of Coe to pray in aid. If you want to take a job that involves you making or influencing big decisions in the world of athletics you just can not be on the payroll of the worlds largest sportswear manufacturers either during or for that matter after your period in office. Nike have major deals with certain athletes - what if one of them was caught up in a drugs scandal? How could Coe retain his impartiality? And even if he could how would he prevent people wondering about it? To me it is very black and white and to hear intelligent people like Coe giving half answers and seemingly not even recognising the point makes my blood boil. It is the same in politics - you see former ministers taking up posts in big business after they leave the House and you have to wonder what they did to get the job. It is all about clear lines and transparency. Simple. End of rant!

Absolutely spot on Smiler. Whether they are decent and get their heads turned, or as you say up for personnel enhancement to start with, I think it comes down to human nature and many just will not be able to resist. These guys are involved in millions but what about the invite for you and the missis to a top restaurant, a weekend in London taking in a show or the lone of a villa for a week in Majorca as a corporate thankyou for doing a deal, in reality its all the same thing ethically. But its no wonder we've not had the World cup for these last 50 years
