Its fairly obvious that the club wanted Burtons manager. You don't receive 50 applicants and then approach another club just to have a chat. After getting knocked back they then turned their attention to Walsalls manager.
After once again getting knocked back did they panic and appoint Redfearn out of sheer desperation? Whatever, it is clear that Redfearn was 3rd choice at best.
Did the board decide the present expenditure was too much or likely to not be enough this time around?
if so, then maybe.
However, no one would consciously work towards that. There would always be one eye on success but a contingency of hedging ones bets may well be on the minds of the money men.
After all, look at Oyston and Blackpool. Clearly the family remain committed to the club but on their terms. They obviously had no designs to go for promotion and werent too fussed about dropping down further. Why should they? They made a once in a lifetime investment and it paid off. No point in throwing the profits into a futile bid to get back up again after assessing how lucky they were first time (fortunate) and not having a prayer of staying up anyway.
TS clearly DESIRES success for the club, but appears unwilling to risk anything other than a League 1 budget.
I can't complain as we were nearly dead and gone, have a great stadium and we are, at the moment at least, in the second tier of football.
But even since recently Redfearn has stated 'the lads need help' he seems to be backtracking already, suggesting to me that he's knocked on the door and no-one is answering...
So, dunno, but suspect lack of funds for players is a problem no matter who the manager is....
In a nutshell we got promoted too quickly. The new fan base has only ever known success and they are eager to chuck the teddy out of the cot if they don't leave the stadium having witnessed 3 points being gained. Redfearn has been brought in to try and make us a winning side in League 1 next year imho.
tony stewart realised that the only decline we would have suffered would have been under oh whats his name now and he has gone to the club that shall not be named the one with the un predictable one in charge
they could be a pub quiz question to what they have in common beside self publicity
redders has walked into a difficult set of fixtures and inherited what the oaf left lwith is mamangement structure nothing but air and players that arnt good enough much ike richie barker got when he went to crawley
gvie the guy a chance to sort it out and at least we know come january there is money in the pot dispite what other think like the guy with the letter K
Some good points made. I don't know but have a leaning towards Davidedin's view. The Championship is becoming a de facto Premiership 2 and you have to risk a substantial investment to join the club.
But long term the bubble will eventually burst. The PL is stale, and has been for 10yrs, the true greats of this world are still choosing Spain, Germany & Italy. When foreign investment gets bored, the calibre of players will reduce and Sky will up sticks which will overnight bankrupt many many teams. Those in operating profit and manageable debt will survive, like us.
Its an excellent statement, Redfearn is here to manage a decline, we're light years from this league, and so are Bristol City & Preston who are huge clubs compared to us. Although getting relegated would set us back the goal of being established in the CH lets be real - unless we're getting 16k every week, the units and G&C are adding funds we haven't a cat in hells chance

frustrating times again...
Would tend to agree, but sounds frightening familiar, a bit Boothesque
No No No, listen to the interviews of late, Redfern notes the recent recruitment campain of RUFC and says he has something to do about it. He is this season fighting a rearward action. I hope, hope he can firefight his way to championship survival but in my heart of hearts i am resigned to league 1 football next season BUT with a hope of a rebuilt RUFC where we recruit an build a side of our own not hire in and rely on other teams cast offs. It might be a hard pill to swallow but belive, we can recover from this mess and come back far stronger.
